Full Moon is Blue Moon's winter beer. Not too bad, but not my favorite.

The Harpoon UFO is a good solid Heffe.

The Black Hawk Stout is a really good, really dark stout originally from CA, but now they have a brewery in NY.

My favorite of this bunch is the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. It's a strong porter with hints of vanilla (obviously) and it's very smooth. Only available in the winter months!

I saw the Harpoon and Full moon... but, I'm really interested in the Black Hawk Stout...

Good beers... I added them to my list.

I agree with the SARNAC review, somebody brought me a variety pack and each one I drank was worse than the last.

But, they was beers and I am stoopid.

I nice restaurant down the raod from us aways serves an English Ale---Old Speckled Hen. Not too bad for an English Ale---a little heavier than I like, but also crisper than one would imagine.

First off, please give my condolences to your youngest brother and his husband.

You're dead on with the Natty Lite comment! Icehouse was the HS choice (back when i was in HS) because it supposedly had an extra 1% alcohol or something silly like that. But a few years ago NC's alcohol limit for beer increased from 6% to 15% so I don't know what kids drink now. In college 'House' beer was either Busch Lite or PBR. If we had a party we'd spring for kegs of Bud Light.

Ya know, I'm not really a big fan of Rolling Rock either. But that's probably because I prefer dark beers. I'm just now trying to train myself to appreciate IPAs.

PS: Raoul - I used to work at the State Fair when it would pass through and those carnies like to make strange bets....

Edited to add: I will un-ban Tim since he has suggested some pretty good beers too.

You keep all your empties? I had kept some of my more interesting empties on the mantle when I was in college, and of course the liquor bottles with highlighter juice in them so they'd glow under blacklight. There's just place to put them now that doesn't look tacky. Hmm, maybe I should get around to building a bar in the basement....

keeping all my empties..... what really blows is I had origonally had kalik in the bahamas but that was shortly before I really got into beer, so when I went to keys this summer I brought back a few for the bottle.... I told my brother he could drink them since I had my share in the keys.... well he took them to a party and failed to bring back the bottle

my bottles are like in the laundry room, eventually I want to have a nice basement with a full bar/beer cellar big HT/PC setup and a good size saltwater tank.... god that would make me happy

Doh that sucks. Did you try the Kalik Extra? It was a 9 or 10 percent alcohol version. Had it while on a dive trip when we stopped off in Bimini this summer.

I don't think I did, I'm going to have to make another trip back to the bahamas just to get my damn bottles, and another trip to jamaica for the dragon stout.... i'm kicking myself in the head for not bringing back more beer

Well, I'm drinking an Old Milwaukee Ice... actually, I already drank 3, and I'm just stating to get a little buzzed... talk about some cheap beer... but since I got it for free, why not drink it. It's beer.

My thoughts: The taste is somewhat bland. It has little carbonation and it reminds me of Steel Reserve. It is a VERY cheap beer, and it is supposed to get you drunk quick. But it's not really working too well on me. But whatever, that's not the point in my case, I'm just trying to get rid of it. (Yes it was a crude birthday present from a friend. ) It is decently filtered, and it is somewhat smooth, but leaves a pretty nasty after taste.

I would only recommend this beer to someone who is desperate for drunkiness. I think the total costs for a 12 pack is around 5 or 6 dollars, the last time I checked. But it might be less.

I hope to get around to returning to my list... but I gotta get rid of this nasty beer first...

Shiner isn't just available in Texas anymore, which makes me happy since I'm in Cleveland moved here from Texas last year.

However, I was at the store the other day and I see Shiner Hefeweizen. I think...I like Shiner Bock, i like Hefeweizen...how could this be bad? It was.

Also, I drink some of the Great Lakes Brewery stuff up here, however their Christmas Ale is awful. My coworkers seem to like it but I think it's because it's more expensive and they feel like they are hoity toity drinking it. I really think they brew the beer with the water collected out of people's Christmas Tree stands.

Great thread by the way. There's a store, I think it's called Ultimate Wine, that you should really visit. They have empty six pack things and walls full of bottles of beer. Pick and choose your own variety and try stuff out. Me and my sister (wife doesn't drink beer) celebrated New Years this way a few years ago. Picked up several six packs, split each beer and sampled the evening away. She took off the labels of the ones she liked and pasted them in a book so she'd know what to get the next time around.
