fighting a speeding ticket.
fighting a speeding ticket.
Anyone ever use those ticket lawyers? I got a speeding ticket for doing 28 over on the motorcycle I was riding the other day. I got it up on 75 near Sherman Texas. I think the exact town was Fairview. I also got a ticket for no insurance and expired inspection. (It wasnt my bike)
If you were doing 28 over and know you were in the wrong why don't you just admit it and pay the ticket instead of trying to get out of it?
I'm not sure about the insurance and inspection though. Why don't you call a police station and inquire about the laws and or call an insurance company as well. Don't mention that you recieved a ticket.

Might want to call your insurance company and see what their policy is as far as covering you driving a vehicle that is not yours. I have Allstate and even though my policy is on my car, I can drive any car/truck/bike and my insurance will still cover me if something were to happen. If your company does the same then you can bring proof that you were covered at the time of the ticket and get that thrown out.
The inspection, not to sure about that one. Here at least, it does not matter if it is your car or not the ticket for expired inspection goes to the operator not the car. A friend who is a GM tech got a ticket for it on a test drive, went to court and they told him it was his responsibility to make sure everything was up to date before taking it out onto public roads.
20+ over, thats a pretty hard ticket to get out of. Not sure that I would go to a ticket lawyer though. Most of the ADA's here HATE thoes guys with a passion, but somehow they seem to convince people that if they went on their own the penalties would have been worse??? I have a Lawyer that I use to help me with my tickets, he either knows or went to school with most of the ADA's here so I usually will get any moving violations knocked down to a non moving and pay a small(less than $100.00) fine.
On a side note, if you got the ticket in a smaller town, watch out. Tickets are a BIG chunk of their revenue.

Smart, Dave!
You hop on a bike and go for a 1000 mile ride when you know the registration is expired and you have no proof of insurance. And then, you speed. IMO, you were asking for it. You should have asked whoever owned the bike where the reg and insurance were, and if he couldn't produce them, you should drive like an old granny, not go speeding down the road.
Sorry, but I hope you DON'T get out of it, being that you were in the wrong. It is the responsibility of the vehicle operator to ensure that the vehicle they are operating has valid inspection/registration and valid insurance, at least in California.

My cousin got a ticket for doing 32MPH over (97 in a 65) not too long, and it was a mandatory court appearance. He got a lawyer and ended up paying like $380 and doing traffic school to get rid of the points.

What a tool.......
I'm always appauled by the low "professionalism" of cops. That's why I have NO desire to help them in any way. They know how to write tickets and such but they don't know anything else. They just respond with some BS answer like "uhhh welll... it's always about the same..." They are little pieces of trash. There are things like drugs (especially in today's world), vandalism, and thefts that need to be addressed and they are out trying to write pitty tickets. Sorry, but when I hear that "cops are your friends" I just say bull*****. They just want to earn their quota by doing easy work such as pulling people over and giving them tickets over virtually nothing, like blown headlights, and not using a turnsignal instead of getting their fat dougnut A$$ more than 10 feet away from their car and crack down on some serious crime. Now i'm not against them going out there and finding drunk drivers, but time spent stopped writing minor a ticket is wasted when they could be watching for drunks. If you are a cop reading this, then I hope you are not the lazy type that won't go find some real work to do.

I don't understand this concept. I drive fast and I have gotten tickets. I do the crime, I pay the price. I don't understand the concept of trying to get out of something you obviously deserve. If it was nitpicking, say 5 mph over the limit, then yeah, I can see that, but 28 mph? Give me a break, I get a ticket for that, I deserve it, I pay it.

I just bet you're the life of the party aren't you. My IQ dropped 10 points just reading that tirade. I tell you what, the next time I have to pick up a 6 year old girls bloody body off of the centerline of the road because the driver of the vehicle behind them thought it would be a good idea to pass in a no passing zone and clipped the front end of the girl's parent's car, I'll give you a call and we can discuss a good place to find a vandal or a thief ok?
I guess the first question is, Do you have a motorcycle endorsment? In WA
28 mph over will result in a negligaint (sp?) driving ticket, speeding, Failure to prove insurance ( Standard $380.00 fine) inspection failure ($178.00).
I got popped doing 142 mph over I-90 on my way to Ellensberg.
Bike gone!!, Traffic safety course ( I was already a graduate of Keith Code's superbike school) Alot of $ (over 5k) and court hearings to get my ride back.
I was stupid and payed for it, although the guy in the mid 80's vette ate my dust till smokeys radio caught up to me.
I now ride my 00' Springer softail and can cruise all day at 80 mph and the 5-0 don't give me a second glance.
