Stopper--Actually traffic is one of the most dangerous situations an officer can become involved with, so while it is technically easy to write a ticket, it is also more likely to end with the officer being injured or killed. I'd rather investigate drugs, vandals, or robberies than work traffic. To answer your question as to why the officer is too busy harassing the general public it's easy. They are new and the SGT hasn't released them to investigate real crime, yet.

Oh, the picture is getting a little clearer now. Let me address the financial portion of your rant. The revenue generated by tickets is a pittance. All the ticket revenue in the state for a year would barely cover the fuel bills for the cruisers for a month. Everything else comes from taxes and grants from the government.
You are butthurt because the police haven't solved YOUR particular problem yet so that makes all of us lazy. I get it. You think you can just call up the local fuzz and tell them that john and jane doe are druggies and they'll walk up to thier door and drag them out into the street and search thier house. Ok, what is John and Jane made the same call on you? I bet the whining would never cease then would it. "they dragged me out at 2:00 in the morning to see if I had been selling drugs, ME, can you believe the nerve of those pigs."
Keep on talking, I'm willing to bet the depths of your ignorance would rival the deepest ocean canyons.

I have been driving for, oh, 35 years and I am pleased as punch to say I have never gotten a speeding ticket, even at 5:30 AM.
He's from Texas.

Shines here, fighting the urge to bash and wail on someone...must fight the urge...the urge is strong within...fight it...hold back...bite tongue...

Any who, I am a proud member of the "20 Defensive Driver Courses Taken Club" to get out of speeding tickets. Not really a club (made it up) but I have seriously taken it 20 times. Twice within the same month. Over the past five years, I have only taken the course twice...I have really slowed down. Those who are getting their panties in a bunch about speeding, running over little girls, and causing general mayhem dont grasp what driving in Texas is like. ALOT of places have roads with NO turns, and go for 50 miles stretches of vast nothing. If speed kills, why are you driving 70 and 75? Did'nt 55 save lives? And if it does, would 45, 35, 25, be even better?

The cop did not care about Daves safety., and to the guy who ranted about cops...a little harsh, but there was a valid point made.

They just want to earn their quota by doing easy work such as pulling people over and giving them tickets over virtually nothing, like blown headlights, and not using a turnsignal instead of getting their fat dougnut A$$ more than 10 feet away from their car and crack down on some serious crime.
Even the old Mayor of Dallas was quoted as saying "Tickets such as 'red light cameras' are revenue producers." Its about the city making money. To say otherwise is just uneducated, and blind to facts.

Another rediculous law is the drinking laws in Texas and the South. These bible thumpers ruin everything! Coming from Florida I was able to buy liquor up untill 2am at a liquor store. Here you cant buy liquor on Sunday and liquor stores close at 9pm every day! Its total BS. And you cant buy beer past 1am!!!!
Where to begin on this one? Best bet to cure this problem would be to GO BACK TO FLORIDA, or start your drunken stupors earlier in the day. Drink and drive there...Don't kill me or my family. Who needs to buy liquer at 2am? If you are buying alcohol that late, I would bet my life that you were already drunk. Thank God, the state of Texas has tried to MAKE you stay home, instead of allowing you to go buy more alcohol to kill your last thousand brain cells in the wee hours of the morning.

I remember a few weeks ago THUMPERMX113 told me to ease up on Dave. That he had changed. WTF? I commented that he was young, and naive to the world. I like Thump. Sorry to bash ya, but it needed to be said.

havent driven after drinking for while now. You would have been proud of me last night Shines! I only had ONE beer at the Mavs game last night! I had to fight the urge to drink more but I did it. I had the kids with me so I had to be good.

On a side note.....My posts sure do stir up some crazyness around here.

Deepest Oceans? Are you sure you don't want to take ignorant comment back? I did a quick google search on traffic revenues...

State Patrols Collect Billions From Speeding Tickets
Speeding ticket revenue amounts to as much as $2.3 billion for 40 state highway patrol agencies, with a list of the top ten ticket states.

Forty state highway patrols issued over 8.1 million citations for speeding in 2003, generating as much as $2.3 billion in revenue, according to an analysis of data found in the Governors Highway Safety Association "Survey of the States: Speeding" report. The number reflects the maximum base ticket amount for a first offense, not including common surcharges such as court costs and driver responsibility programs. Ten states reported that they do not collect data on the number of speeding citations issued.

The number of tickets issued by state patrols is only a fraction of the number of speeding tickets issued statewide by local police forces. In Florida, for example, state police issued 396,252 tickets worth up to $99 million in revenue. City and county police in Florida issued an additional 394,752 tickets worth up to $98.5 million. Insurance companies also generate revenue by increasing the annual insurance rates for speeding ticket recipients, which often exceeds the cost of the citation.

Although not a state, the District of Columbia has a population greater than Wyoming, the state issuing the second highest number of tickets per capita. Residents of Washington, D.C. are twelve times more likely to be issued a speeding ticket than residents of the neighboring state of Maryland. District police pulled over only 10,391 motorists, but speed cameras issued 423,910 tickets.
Your knowlege of nothing impresses me...

Oh and about the drinking laws in Texas....

The only thing that gets me is the not being able to buy alcohol on Sundays. Sometimes I forget to stock up on saturday for football parties. And sometimes we run out and then cant get anymore. I cant see any legitimate reason for not selling Liquor on Sundays.

To answer the original question....

Anyone ever use those ticket lawyers? I got a speeding ticket for doing 28 over on the motorcycle I was riding the other day. I got it up on 75 near Sherman Texas. I think the exact town was Fairview. I also got a ticket for no insurance and expired inspection. (It wasnt my bike)

Yes, I have and its money well spent.

These guys are pretty fair.

They can probably get the speed reduced and the two other charges dropped. I'm guessing that you will probably have to pay them about $300 plus the full fine for the 28 mph ticket, but you will be better off financially in the long run.

I have been using them for years, and only had to actually show up to court once.

" When Georgia says No Trucks in the Left Lane, I guess they really really mean it."

I also found out the hard way that Parking your truck in down town Marietta and taking up 7 parking stalls is against the law. It doesnt matter if you fed all 7 meters or not. It doesnt really seem fair to me?

I dont suppose your are in charge for purchasing cruisers for your department are ya? If 2.3 billion is a pittance, maybe more cops should be on bikes...

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am sorry to have to bash Smokey, I just get a little irked (actually alot) at those who spew misinformation, and try to come off as an expert or as knowledgable. Did I know the information beforehand? No, but I had a general consensus. SO! I looked up the facts BEFORE posting...and gave FACTS!

This argueing about ticket revenue is retarded.

In alot of states, The ticket fines arent allowed to be distributed amongst the law enforcement agencies.

Take Iowa for instance, The ticket revenue collected goes to the school disctrict for the county in witch the ticket was issued.

It isnt like the cops are out there writing tickets at double the pace hoping to save up enough money to buy a new cruiser.

Taxes and grants?!?!? Do you know what a GRANT is? Its the government giving back what they took in taxes. For example, Texas sends X amount to the government every year...the government give them back for roads and such X minus Y. Texas never gets back what the government takes. I do have to appologise, YOUR state may get more than it sends. In that case, I can understand you using the word "GRANT." I prefer the word "THEFT" here in Texas.

WTF? Do you know how much 2.3 billion is? Let me help. ONE billion equates to $999,999,999.00 plus One dollar. Or, lets write out 2.3 billion numerically

$2,300,000,000.00

Dude, if you don't think that 2.3 billion is alot of money, either you cannot count, or you are Bill Gates!
