What is it with guns...?
I find it funny, Americans are all about walking around with guns...
Ya you could get carjacked, and ya there's alot more guns out there... but didnt you guys ever think that maybe it's not as good as it appears.. maybe when some crackhead pulls a gun on you and wants your wallet.. it'll be a hell of a lot more dangerous for you to pull your gun out? you've just escalated the situation to fight or flight.. where the crackheads choice is simply shoot you and take your money or walk away... and obviously they want your money.
I live in Calgary.. and ya I've had people pull guns on me for cutting them off or w/e reason.. but I've yet to be shot.
IDK to me guns are far to deadly.. I always have a knife on me.. it's smaller, more concealable.. and you can do damage without killing somebody.. so if you are ever in a life or death situation you don't have to worry about being charged with excessive force or 3rd degree murder/manslaughter w/e the bull**** is after the dust settles.
Then again Canada has far less guns per person then America does..

I highly recommend anyone who carries a firearm should check at local gun clubs for classes and matches to familiarize yourself with your firearm of choice. There are some great matches that simulate real world situations that are a great place to learn and have some fun for people of all skill levels.
In Canada it's illegal to have a restricted firearm on you at any time unless you are in route directly to a firing range. If you so much as pull in at a 7-11 you are now a criminal.
ANY firearm restricted or unrestricted (pistols/ rifles/shottys respectively) MUST have a trigger lock on it at ALL times unless you are at the range/hunting.. and ammunition must always be locked up separately from where the gun is locked up.
In home or otherwise.
I just did the course for restricted and unrestricted and I'm planning on getting my license pretty soon.
Here pistols are not even legal to be carried while hunting (which every hunter I know ignores, because regardless you never know when you may need a pistol)
Fully auto-weapons are illegal here aswell..
Our gun laws are far more restrictive then anything in the states.. and as a result we have far less gun crimes..
Instead we have higher knife/other related homicides besides guns, which IMO is better... you have a better chance defending yourself vs a knife or a bat then vs a gun @ 50 feet.
I'm semi trained as a boxer.. nothing special but I know how to react to openings when people leave them, I carry a bat in my truck at all times encase some ******* wants to start **** with me, as I prefer a bat to a knife.
I find most crimes are not really planned out though, just kind of heat of the moment.. a few weeks ago at a party my sister was at, a buncha kids showed up that nobody knew... a few of the guys went out to tell them to get lost.. the result saw a 17 year old kid dead with a pick-axe embedded in his skull. My sister was one of the people that saw the kid after.
these are 16 and 17 year old kids... and according to statistics recently in the paper more and more violent crimes are being associated with young kids because they see no consequences for their actions..
Could you imagine if guns were easily and readily avalible?
I guess I just answered my own question on why Americans need guns.. if all the little punks here had guns I'd probably want one too..

First off lose the Canada/America thing because I live in S. Fla and have NEVER had a gun pulled on me so maybe you guys aren't doing the gun thing so well after all in Calgary since you claim to have been on the wrong end of a gun in traffic more than once. Sounds like you've got your own gun issues to deal with based on your experiences. You have missed the reason most choose a gun as a weapon. We are not "all about" walking around with guns like they are toys or an extention of our manhood, we want absolute decisive power in the unlikely event that our loved ones and sometimes ourselves are in peril and we have no choice. You really trust you can defend your family with that knife in a situation of multiple attackers, etc.? Have you had some sort of weapons training with it or think you're Bruce Lee? There are people that will take that knife and use you for Biology class in a second even if you know they are coming. Especially someone geeked up on drugs or alcohol who feels nothing and has drug induced super human strength. Sure there are those that do not treat guns properly but most law abiding citizens do. A gun doesn't solve every problem in every situation and if you got suprise attacked and a gun stuck to your head of course you do whatever they say. I personally do not carry in my truck in my daily routine but break in my house and pay the price.
BTW my next door neighbor got attempted murder on someone........he was using a stick so don't think that knife will get you in less trouble. It's just a lot less effective. I personally think a knife for a personal defense weapon is stupid b/c you are more likely to use it in a less than needed situation, it's much less effective especially a small one and most people have no skills with them even if they think they do, and they will generally **** of the other person to the point you will now be in a life or death struggle with a knife. Have fun with that. You want to stay separated from your attacker as much as possible. Get a can of pepper spray and practice sprinting.

Oh and I live in S. Fla as well and I've never had a gun pulled on me either (except for the cops lol).
Oh and to touch on the attempted murder thing, you can get attempted murder no matter what, if any, weapon you use. Trying to kill somebody with a gun is no different than trying to kill the same person with a knife or your hands. That is why it's so important to know the laws regarding self defense in your area.

But if the day ever comes, and again, I pray that it doesn't, that it comes down to me or them, I'll be goddamned if I do nothing about it.
BTW, I've never had a gun pulled on me anywhere in the US, yet you have in Canada. That might be a hint there.

I'll add this. If I'm held up and they want my wallet, I'll give it to them. It wouldn't be worth it to die over a few bucks. But soon as I feel like they're going to just shoot me anyways etc they're going to have a hollow point between the eyes.

x's 2
And if I can do it with out them ever seeing my gun, I'll take that route too, or atleast keep it hidden until it's to late for them to do anything. I'll take every advantage I can and take every advantage they have over me, that I can take away from them too.
If your a criminal attempting to do physical harm to my family or mysef, and you see my gun.... you're already dead, your just to stupid to realize it yet!
BTW I've been on the business end of 2 guns, 1 pistol and one rifle.... The rilfe was justified, bad situation and he had the right. I wasnt doing anything wrong just bad situationand a misunderstanding.
The pistol I was glad my buddy was with me and he was able to get to my shot gun out of the truck, and took over the situation, otherwise I'd be dead.

I have had a gun pulled on me for cutting a guy off once, and another time when 3 guys in a car thought I was somebody named mikey..
I'm sorry if I was coming across as conceited with the America vs. Canada thing, that's not how I intended it.. the only reason I brought it up was simply the difference in the availability of guns to any citizen.
No I do not think i am "bruce lee" with a knife.. and in a situation with multiple attackers I'd do as much damage as humanly within my capability if it was in regard to the protection of loved ones.
Nor was I attempting to make legal gun owns all look like loose cannons in the states, that just want to go around shooting people. That was NOT my intent at all.
The only point I was really trying to make was the irony that people assume more guns is what is needed to protect them from guns...

By that logic rape victims should just, "lay back and enjoy it"..
YOU are the only one that can defend yourself, the police have no legal obligation to protect you. Their obligation is to catch the person who robbed/raped/murdered you.
I just don't understand the way of thinking that says, hey.. this thug took the time, put in the effort to rob me.. he earned it..

Just like in a fist fight, there is no winner, both wake up with bumps and bruises the next day.
In a gun fight you could easily die....
Whats your price?
If someone holds you up for 50 cents.... is it worth risking your life, psosiiably dieing for, when you could otherwise live?
With each situaion you have to ask yourself, "Is the grape worth the squeeze?"
Material things mean nothing to me, everything is disposable and replaceable, but not if I'm dead. So why risk dieing to save them?

I'ts really hard to stop a gun with a gun, however you can easily stop the person behind the gun if you have a gun of your own.

Here's a new and shocking revelation: Criminals don't follow the law. Enact more gun laws like Canada? All you're doing is disarming the law abiding citizens; the bad guys already have guns, knives, sharp sticks, whether the law says they can have them or not.
