In my case I build Boeing next generation 737's, ever flown in a airbus plane?
In my opinion and yes I'm bias, I won't lie.
They are noisy, they are built with xyz components that they have to make for a repair.
Boeing planes are built with standards you can purchase from Alcoa Aluminum.
A 737 takes flight every 3 seconds in the world, I don't know who "they" are but "they" say about every 1:30 a airbus plane is off the ground, by shear numbers we build a superior product, and hopefully continue to do so.
Quality wise we are superior as well, otherwise we wouldn't out sell them in their own backyard.
2nd question, I have no answer for.

The Airbus is built with standard parts also, just a different standards. The biggest difference is that they are metric and it is very hard to find metirc aerospace standards in the US. For what it's worth I also work in the aerospace industry for a European company so this is an issue I deal with all the time.
I do prefer Boeing vs. Airbus but not because it was union made. That just means that my airline ticket costs more because the cost to build, maintian and fly the aircraft is higher.
Well its all moot. Strike is over, waiting on contract details. Union is in charge of retiree healthcare (those poor retired bastards), workers will get bonuses and lump-sum payments (this is where the details will be interesting).
What stops GM from telling all the Union workers to F off and go rehire and retrain workers. Dont get me wrong quality would temporarily suffer as people are trained and production would come to a half for a bit. Just seems right now when the market isnt as hot as it has once been and all this BS is going on with the unions it would be a time to make a change like this. Seems like the long run benefits would far out weigh the short term hassles
I know Airbus is union, but they are subsidies from 3 different governments that keep their people employed.
Of course now with 787 parts being produced in other countries we have now entered the realm of subsidies ourselves 27 bln from what I have read.
Sorry I have been unable to answer your questions but I tried and it was interesting hearing peoples opinions.
Looks like their retirees future is in the unions hands.
I don't agree with the lump sums and bonuses.
Our contract is up next Sept 08'
We are posed for negotiations but will be asking for increases in retirement benefits, no takeaways with medical and general wage increases.
We'll see what happens.

In post #95 I question how that theory backfires.
In post #99 Wookie asks the same.
As of post #112 you have not answered my/Wookie's question.

Open your minds, guys. It's all a gamble anyway.
