Jena 6?

While I still won't agree with the whole, "he was unconscious prior to the attack" statement- clearly he was conscious when the first blow landed, which came as a result of taunting another kid. I don't see how anyone can say this was premediatated. Premeditated means they planned to whip this kid.
By your admission, and now mine- we both have socked a joker in their pie-hole, for mouthing off to us. Suspended? Yes. Paddled? Yes. But, we didn't go to jail for it.
Well, I'm not saying they should be let free. I agree, there are consequences for our actions, but to me, battery is battery. No one goes to school expecting a beat down, no one goes to a "party" expecting a beat down either. There are varying degrees of wrong in everything, but right is right, and wrong is wrong. It's wrong to throw one kids life away over beating someone up (and not that badly), but letting the others go home. Murderers and child molesters have gotten less time in prison than this boy faces (unless it's 1st degree).
Mychal Bell was the only one over the age of 15 at the time of the attack, which is why by Louisiana law (which states anyone over the age of 15 can be tried as an adult), he was tried as an adult, and why the other 5 will not be. He was 16 in December 2006, today he is 17. The other kids, then aged 14 - 15, are now 15 & 16.
We'll never meet on the same ground here- so we'll just have to see how it plays out in the end.
A kid has already spent nearly a year in jail over a black eye. I think that's enough.
I'm just sad, and scared my son has to grow up in a society full of candy-@$$ (hit me and go to jail), rules now-a-days. Just the other day, my friend's 3 year and 1 month old son was kicked out of daycare, for pretending to "shoot" at another kid with his "finger-gun". Stuff they see the Power Rangers doing.
Kids can't even play Cowboys and Indians, or Cops & Robbers anymore.
While I'm not comparing the actions of a 3 year old, to that of 14 - 16 years olds, the reaction (trying to throw kids in jail for deacades over a fight, and throwing a 3 year old out of school to pointing his finger at a kid, and making a gun sound) does speak to the candyazz-wussification of America, and our societal ideaology.
The only real good that has come from this, so far- is. People are fully aware that blatant, 1960's style racism exists in America today, a symbol of it, (The "White's only tree) has since been cut down, and that the two Klansmen who saw fit to drive through the demonstration in their pick-up truck, with nooses hanging from each mirror, were both arrested.
People know who was the primary recipient of the noose treatment in the USA (Rosewood, FL, Tulsa, OK, Belton, TX). THey can play ignorant if they want to, like it's all innocent. But, I bet if a clown wore a swastika to a Jewish school, and six Jews beat the snot out of him, no one would say a word. Because of the 6-year holocaust the Jews suffered. There treatment was brutal, but six years was short compared to 400 years of slavery, and the untold hudreds of thousands (some say millions) drowned, and countless more starved to death and dying of disease- of laying in their own feces and urine on slaveships sailing from Africa to America. Not to mention another 100 years of mistreatment, and silent segregation after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
So, yes- right or wrong, blacks are going to be alert to any sign of unfairness, since the only resembleance of fairness, only truly began in this country in 1965, a short 42 years ago, not 142 years ago, as some believe.

Pffft, more than a few times it didnt even take that for me.........
Just be in the wrong place at the wrong time when the urge hit me to start some ****.......

Friday/saturday night fights through highschool were as common and as predictable as Monday night football. Someone was getting beat, it's going to happen just didn't know who or how bad yet...... Sometimes the drama bled over into school hours or sometime it started in school hours and ended in a downtown fight, or brawl, or what ever. Rarely was it ever one fight... 2 guys might start often before they are finished another 1,2,3,4...10 had broke out. Even as a spectator there was an 80% chance you'd be fighting too. It was not uncoomon to get in 2 and occasionally 3 in one weekend. One time me and this one dude got into it twice a night friday and saturday night for 2 or 3 weekends straight, we just didnt like each other and had mutual friends so found ourselfs in the same company, add alocohol and we'd fight.
Broken noses, broken jaws, black eyes, bumps and lumps, few stitches... occasinally broken arms and ribs..... no one ever got in trouble... the receptor was always just as quilty by being there and would get beat worse by others if he ratted...... Or wouldn;t be allowed at parties or to socialize at all..... He'd be ostercised from highschool society.
I cant knock the 6 on 1... I know how the crap went down when I was in school..... if you shoot your mouth to a group.... then make triple sure that you never find yourself alone..... if you do then pray to god they dont find you at that time!!!!!

My problem is everyone wants to protest this case for no reason other than the B/W issue. Now if the community was to stand up and say hey they do not deserve this stiff charge(Attempted Murder) but they do deserve to be charged with Assult, that would be fine but they are not. They are saying that these kids should be let off the hook 100%. Now Jesse, Al, and MLK III are involved so EVERYONE wants to jump on the bandwagon with them. What kills me is that J, A, and M want these kids to be set free, however had the shoe been on the other foot they would be protesting that the DA dropping the charges to Assult was bias. Lets strive for equal rights but only when they fit into our agenda is the way they(JJ, AS, MLKIII) see it.

The way I see it JJ, AS, MLKIII etc would rather keep racism going. If it was to stop their money tree would dry up. The best example of this is the Duke lacrosse players. When the four white guys were accused of raping the black girl they were calling for blood. However, when the truth came out and it was proven that the girl was lying and the DA faked the evidence they are nowhere to be found. They owe these men an apology on the 6 o'clock news, the same place that they ran their names into the ground. If they really stood for racial equality it would be easy to say, "I was wrong, forgive me." Yet, they have never said a word about it.

Jena 6 defendant released on bail
By DOUG SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 42 minutes ago
"Mychal Bell's release on $45,000 bail came hours after a prosecutor confirmed he will no longer seek an adult trial for the 17-year-old. Bell, one of the teenagers known as the Jena Six, still faces trial as a juvenile in the December beating in this small central Louisiana town.
"We still have mountains to climb, but at least this is closer to an even playing field," said the Rev. Al Sharpton, who helped organize last week's protest.
"He goes home because a lot of people left their home and stood up for him," Sharpton said.
District Attorney Reed Walters' decision to abandon adult charges means that Bell, who had faced a maximum of 15 years in prison on his aggravated second-degree battery conviction last month, instead could be held only until he turns 21 if he is found guilty in juvenile court.
The conviction in adult court was thrown out this month by the state 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal, which said Bell should not have been tried as an adult on that particular charge.
Walters had said he would appeal that decision. On Thursday, he said he still believes there was legal merit to trying Bell as an adult but decided it was in the best interest of the victim, Justin Barker, and his family to let the juvenile court handle the case."
