Yeah, my best friend are going today to Stars vs. Canucks game 3 today in Dallas, 8:30 PM Central time. We're leaving early, at 4 PM, to take in some of the playoff atmosphere. Can't wait!

Devils

Well, after reading all these posts, I have to jump in with a vote for the Devils, although not the same since Stevens retired and the new NHL rules. Other than the Sabers person, It seems all western conferance on this forum.
To the person that said the NHL needs Pittsburgh to win, NO WAY. I am so sick of seeing ESPN and Versus kiss Crosby's but. They kissed Mario Lemieux's butt long enough, then during 2001 they kissed Ray Bourque's butt. Thats all that was on TV. If Pittsburgh wins, then the NHL is fixed.

Did not expect to see them in the playoffs this quickly, but hey they may as well win the cup now.

Where the f&@% are you coming from? The Wings come in first in the conference, tied for best record in the league, and six points ahead of your 6th-place-in-the-conference beloved Dallasota North Stars, yet you give them no credit? Give me a freakin' break.

Vancouver 2
Dallasota 1

Playoff hockey is playoff hockey. I'd love to go to a Wings game again...

Yes it is. I suffer from sleep deprivation this time each year due to NHL playoff hockey, well except for the strike year.

Well, there are a couple of reasons why I said that and I won’t take credit for it being an original thought. It has been said several times and I happen to agree. Pit doesn't need to win it all just win a round and I think the reason everyone is falling over themselves for Crosby is because Hockey is not a top 4 or even 5 pro sports league since Gretzky's prime years. The NHL needs, among other things, a big star to put the sport in the spotlight especially when Arena football and Poker are more popular on tv than hockey. Maybe it doesn’t matter to most people whether hockey does well as a sport but I love the game and would like to see it do better. I don’t think Crosby is the savior that ESPN and Verses desperately want him to be and I don’t think one super star is going to fix all of hockey’s problems with sports fans but being able to showcase one of the most talented young players can’t hurt. That said, I think the Pens can get into the second round without the NHL rigging anything. The Sens are playing good hockey right now but we have seen that before. Just like we have all seen Turco collapse in the playoffs. Couldn’t resist Stealth.
The Red Wings aren’t getting any respect because they are the Yankees of Hockey. One expects the Wings to do well in the playoffs especially when posting top numbers in the regular season but they have floundered over the last few years. Besides, unless you were born in Michigan or lived there for a good part of your life or inherited the Wings from family you love to hate on the Wings. It’s more Jealousy that anything else plus I like to see the little teams take out the bigger ones. It makes for a more exciting series.

And for disclosure purposes I was made a fan of hockey through the Coyotes (sigh) when they moved into Phoenix and since have been a hockey player and supporter despite them. I will now get to participate in a true hockey State when I move up to Minnesota later this year.

I do agree that the wings are a VERY good team and they made Calgary look real bad in the first two games, but you have to admit that the Wings regular season points are a little skewed due to the fact that 3 out of the 5 teams in that division really suck.

I am not a Flames fan but if you look at their regular season stats, they are an entirely different team at home than on the road. I am expecting a much better performance in Calgary for games 3 and 4 (not that it could any worse).

I think its kinda funny though, all the cokky Flames fans here at the office are suddenly very quiet.

The Wings went from 1956 to 1996 without a Cup. I would hardly call them the "Yankees of Hockey".

I would have to agree.
