Yeah... and with that thinking it that makes Windows built on top of DOS, right? Which would you rather run??? Something that was built for networking, internet, multiple procesors, etc... or something that wasnt?

All I can say is I work on computers for a living. Thank god for Windows because it helps me return on a pretty steady basis to my clients to remove viruses, spyware, and just fix the stuff that we have all experienced.

I was putting people on Macs but then I realized clients only called me once or twice to thank me once it was all set up and then I was useless.

Ive used both for years but Im selling the PC now and putting the money with that and my powerBook towards a new MacBook Pro. It really is *that* much better. (Unless you prefer to spend more time fixing things then using them, which is probably pretty common with car guys right?)

And yes, we can use two buttons smart guy.

Oh god, another one...

Dude, if you work on PCs for a living and are good at your job you should know it takes all of 10 minutes to lock a PC down to prevent spyware and viruses. And Windows built on top of DOS?! Are you F'in kidding me? Go do your homework, or re-read all of my posts... NT and beyond in no way shape or form are built on top of DOS. Get a grip dude. You also might want to check into what OSX was built on... its roots are much closer to a command-line O/S than Windows. Me thinks you need to find a new line of work.

Kobi, would you recommend a Wacom tablet for a amateur Photoshop user?

Do you use it in combination with the mouse? Do you do any free hand drawing or do you mainly do image manipulation?

Which model would you recommend?

Thank you.

hj -

I use the Wacom Intuos2 - 9x12 tablet (which you can sort of see to the right of the monitor).

It's not cheap but it's the best thing out there.

The 9X12 is scalable and it works great with a wide screen monitor. (6x11 didn't exist when I got mine)

I can't imagine doing anything in PS on any serious level, and I certainly can't imagine doing anything well without it. The only time I use the mouse in PS is when I am jumping thru menus after I have finished doing the actual PS work.

I also use it for any work in Painter (and for painter it is essential).

Would I recommend it for "amateur" PS users? Yes . . . when I got it I was an "amateur" and essentially I still am (although I am hating working for "the man" so I am considering opening my own shop for PS work.

Just so you know, I do a lot of "freehand drawing/painting" in image manipulation work. Rarely is it cut and paste compositing. When compositing or creating a matte background, a lot of that work is painting. What you see here with my little joke image stuff is nothing.

Painting can be anything easy such as object removal . . .

for example, here in front of the church, near the flag pole was another flagpole, a telephone pole, wires, some kind of junction box on the lawn in the foreground . . . and I had to paint a lot of it out by hand.

Or something such as this . . .

a lot of which is cut and paste compositing, also has a lot of painting . . .

The Concorde required a lot of painting to have Air Force One attributes plus a lot of objects were painted out of the pic and into the pic. . . all of which can be done only by tablet.

A lot of stuff that you take for granted such as shadows and such can only be achieved by pressure sensitive stylus. And if you ever want to do fine-art style work (such as Painter) then you have no choice.

Hope this answers your question. If you have other questions feel free to ask.

:santa:

PS even when doing simple stuff like cutting something with the lasso, I find I can get a degree of accuracy that I can't get with a mouse . . . FYI

Thanks for the info!

Looks like I need to order one. I've always wanted one and I do have a copy of Painter that has been worthless so far. Now I have a business related excuse to get one, a real stretch of an excuse, but a reason none-the-less.

One more quick question, is the 9 x 12 $120 better than the 6 x 8?

I think so, but be aware . . . 6x8 is bigger than 6x8 and 9x12 is larger than 9x12
so check Wacom's site for the full dimensions. The 9x12 takes up a good amount of desk space if you plan on using it on the desk. (some have it in their lap), but yes, I think it's worth the extra 120. Also check around, sometimes you can find really good bundles such as a tablet with a full version of Painter, etc. Check out MacConnection/PCConnection, Mac Mall, CDW, etc.

I believe that is correct and that it is looking back toward Terminal 2A.

I did not take the original pic, I just composited over an existing shot some tourist took of an Air France Concorde.

The last few times I flew in and out of CDG I flew American and we used 2A. That unmarked aircraft in the background is an American Airlines aircraft and AA uses 2A. I could be sure if I could see the Admiral's Club which is at the far end of Terminal A, but the planes are blocking the view . . . but I am almost positive you are correct.

God, I already miss Paris . . .

Most of my flights in and out of CDG were on Delta/Air France that uses 2C. I will go even further out and say I think that the photo was taken at the end of the check-in counters just before the food court.
