Wait, so if no rebates existed (which guaranteed SOMETHING did), and you still paid sticker...I would STILL find that hilarious and sad all at the same time.

Sorry dude, but you seriously don't know how to buy cars...not everyone does, and I'm sure you are good at something else, but not buying cars/trucks.

Even with minimal to no rebates you should STILL be able to get any F150 below MSRP. I got over 6 grand extra off of my truck above and beyond the rebates...and ended up 6k under msrp, including 8.75% tax and ca license. My msrp was only 36k~, had I got an even more optioned out truck, I would have gone even deeper.

Heck, I got my Dad his '04 Screw LAriat 4x4 stickered at 40,265 for 31,200 OTD. And that was back in '04 when they were still new and selling like hot cakes.

i've been reading a lot of these threads about the tundra and figured i'd input a little. first off, it's an ugly truck, looks like one of those smart car things had to much to eat at the buffet with the rounded cab deal. and how about durability? i don't see toyota making claims to be long lasting, just fast, that's pretty much all they have going for their marketing, if i'd want to go fast then i would have gotten a sports car of some sort. i got my truck to pull and haul things with and it does that just fine. and i'm pretty sure that it would happily pull a tundra on a trailer after it breaks down when it gets into the higher miles. just my .02 take em or leave em.

I bought my LARIAT for $27,000, I'm damn sure thats a lot cheaper than the Tundra. . I bet for a loaded Tundra 4 door, it'd cost you around $40,000. I'll take that extra $13,000 besides I wouldn't have to drive a whale shark truck. .

As sick as I am of the Tundra, let me say this. Yes a loaded Tundra would be around $40K, but in 3-4 years it's still going to be worth around $28-33K. A comparable Ford (after incentives, employee pricing and any other gimmicks to move trucks) in 3-4 years will lose at least 50% of it's value. One of the main reasons people buy Toyota's and Nissan's is because they hold their value WAY better then the domestics. That becomes very important at trade-in time.

Good point, and in todays market, vehicle turnover is so great that ppl think about reselling their vehicle even before they buy them. Resale really hurts Ford, those pricing incentives dont help existing owners, thats for sure.

Yeah, that's something some of these "bury me in my Ford" guys don't understand. I made that point because I got tired of the posts from a couple of guys laughing at what UberDude paid for his XLT. Lumadar I guess would like us all to believe he is the "auto guru" of sales and finance. It would seem he believes that anyone that paid more then $30K for their truck is an idiot.

Explain to me how you get it back when your '05 has already lost almost 50% of it's value.

Suggested retail....$29,655

Private party.........$26,110

Trade in...............$22,750

My truck stickered at 42,500...............i paid 33,000 for it........so tell me how i lost 50% of what i paid already after driving it 2 years....

My point was so you pay sticker price for a yota and you get more for trade in...

Or you buy whatever else and pay below sticker and get less for trade in...its the same money. Wait, but it does make you feel better when they give you more on trade in. So yes, ill pay sticker price

You didn't answer my question. How do you get back ANY of what you paid for your truck when it's already lost almost 50% of it's value. I'll make it even easier, let's say 20% or even 5%. A loss is a loss, the only way you'll get anything back is if it either holds it's value (that won't happen), or, your "Lariat" increases in value (definitely won't happen).

If I understand what your saying, you paid 33,000. If you sold privately you would get 26,110, trade would get you 22,750. You figure that Toyota or any dealer will give you more then book value if you pay sticker. By your own numbers your truck has already lost 20% of what you paid for it, going by the private party number.

Guess I will have to explain it to ya, so here goes.

You buy an 05 XLT 2wd F150 at invoice $28k and in two years, the truck is worth $16k private retail and the dealer offers you $14k for a trade-in. These values are based on Edmunds TMV(True Market Value). Nevermind KBB because a dealer(or private party) will never give you KBB for the F150, I think we all know that.

Now lets say you buy an 05 SR5 2wd Extended cab Tundra at invoice $24.3k and in two years the truck is worth 17k private retail and the dealer offers you $15.4 trade in.

Now even though the F150 may have cost more it depreciated at a higher rate, and you are now upside down in the vehicle. Its insulting the dealer would offer a low ball trade in, but due to employee pricing everyone buys new and doesnt buy used any more. You reluctantly take the low ball trade in, or keep the truck because a trade in would be a loss.

However, the Tundra has not depreciated at as high rate. and you will more than likely be able to sell it via private party because Toyota rarely lowers the price of new vehicles to drastic low levels. As a result, used buyers are more likely to buy a lightly used Tundra for around 17k and you make out pretty good.

Ford counts on incentives to sell vehicles, but to those of us that already own an F150, every incentive decreases our chance of a provate sale and decent trade in. We get the shaft basically.

I dont like it anymore than anyone else, but thats how it is.

Simple math Tbird, you buy cheap and sell cheap, or buy high and sell high. Its the same either way. But if you buy cheap, you end up paying less in financing charges. If you buy a 40K toyota and I buy a 36K Ford, and I get 6K in incentives then I pay 30K. Now we both trade them in and mine is only worth 15K, and yours is still work 25K. We both lose 15K in equity but your finance charges (depending on rate) can be as much as 1500 a year more than mine. Thats not even considering when I pull out my Z plan on top of that.

My real question is why are some people are advocating the Tundra to such an extent on a Ford truck forum? Aren't we supposed to be talking about our awesome Ford trucks? A quick Google search came up with www.toyotanation.com, says its a site for toyota owners and enthusiats, I think some of this belongs there.

For one reason or another, everyone who owns a Ford picked it for some reason or another over another brand. For me, I've owned 19 Ford vehicles through the years and I have over 1.3 million miles on one of my 83. I buy them because I truly believe they are built Ford tough!

Try again, if you think anyone will give you $26k for your truck, well I want whatever it is you're smoking.

TMV(True Market Value) for your 05 4x4 Lariat is:

Private Party $22.0k
Trade-in: $19.9k
