bags of sand
bags of sand
do you all put bags of sand in your bed for traction. how many 50 lbs bags of sand do you all use. I put a 2x10 across the bed of my truck (in the slot for it) i have 100 lbs back there now close to the tailgate. it drives better in the rain do you all think i should get more. will the 2x10 board tear up my line X bed liner it will move a bout 1/4 inch it is not a tight fit
Close to the tailgate is the wrong place to put it. It should be over or in front of the axle. You are adding weight to the rear putting it next to the tailgate, but taking it off the front.

Got about 500lbs of tube sand from home depot in the back of the '97, and the diesel has about 1000lbs of random crap under the cover.
Comeon jamz, it's a truck, gets bad mileage anyway with the aero of a brick.

Dude..You've got a 4x4... Get some bigger decent tires and be done with it
Yes. It will make your MPG go down. It's added weight. I've gotten by all winter just fine without any added weight in the bed (besides any snow/ice that is already there). It handled 10" of snow/ice no problem. Only got "stuck" once going uphill on a road that hadn't been driven on yet. I should have gotten more speed. I just backed down the hill, got more speed, and was fine.

I've had my truck for 7 years, 5 winters in Alaska and 2 in the northwest. I have never put any weight in the bed, 4wd has gotten me where I need to go. That includes my driveway which is uphill from the road to the house and right now is pretty much a solid sheet of ice.

See, that's why I asked. I have a 2WD, and it gets crazy sometimes.
When it rains around here, that lil 4.2L V6 likes to think it has some nuts and the tires just spin. At first I thought it might be I need new tires, but I got some good thread left. Then I thought it was the roads, maybe the rear end is just a little light, huh?
