I'm probably gonna catch holy hell for this but I don't care. I would suggest you get the PS2. It's cheap enough now ( $124 )and there are a ton of games out in the $20 range or even used games for $5 and $10. It's a minimal investment for something you may never use. If you like it, then you can get the PS3 later on and still use the PS2 games ( if you wanted to ) in it. Just my suggestion for an inexpensive way to have some fun and decide if it's for you or not.

You know for that matter, take a look at the PS2 games and the Original X-box games. You can prolly get a used x-box dirt cheap. Hell, you can get both easily for the price of a Wii and test 'em both out. That way you can get Halo AND Metal Gear Solid games! Woo-hoo!
Thanks Brew, D, and Vader! Good advice. I did notice that none of you offered for me to stop by your house and try them out, like Jamz did.

I'm posting from my Wii again.
The Wii is backwards compatible with Gamecube games as well.
But BREWS idea is good one as well.

A week after that crazy hype last year I went into my local game stop and asked them when next year can I get one. He said I have one now. Want it? Just got 20 in today and have 1 left.
I walked out with a PS3 at retail price.
Also 2 years ago people were camping out for the PSP. The day they came out I was in Target in Anehaim, CA getting something else and saw 20 of them on the shelf and bought one.
So far my luck is holding out avoiding the hype.

Woo Hoo I finally did something right
All this sheetrock dust and paint fumes have been killing me this week.
Bluejay, you are more than welcome to come try my PS2 when ever you want.
D' is right, you can prolly get both systems used at gamestop or the like and see what you like best.

Not just hardcore gamers, not just casual gamers, but old people, very young people, and those absolutely new to the idea.
There are different style games for different types of people. There is something for everyone with a Wii, don't really see how you can go wrong with one.
And, if by some chance, you do buy one and don't really care for it, I'm sure you could easily get full, or nearly full return selling it used.
*I don't even own one, but I currently have one set up in my theatre room compliments of a friend. It's great fun, and has a big range of titles. My sister plays, my older siblings play (mid 30s), and my hardcore gamer friends all play.
That's impressive in my book.

I was looking around in Sam's Club last night. Their regular price for the Xbox 360 is $449. It called it a bundle. Several items along with the console. That was the only brand I saw, though they had some accesseries for others units.

Not sure if you want a 360 right out of the gate. Unless money isn't the issue then hell yeah its an awesome system marketed at the avid console gamer & adult crowd. Solid game lineup, but more complex of a controller!
So what kind of games do you think you'd be into? Driving, sports, action, strategy, or just run around and kill sheet?
