I would love to have one and if I had $600 I would buy one. I don't really even care about playing games on it but $600 is still $400 cheaper than a good Blue Ray player that costs $1000. I have an HDTV and High Def cable and I love it... my next big purchase will probably be a PS3 simply to have the highest quality video available. Also I played Need for Speed Carbon on the PS3 and it was amazing.

One review I read on Ign.com summed it up nicely.

The PS3 is great if you need a Hi-Def DVD player...if you want a gaming system it currently lacks a lot.

The problem with the PS3 is there are no current impressive games out for it.

Just like when the Xbox 360 was first launched all the games looked pretty ****ty too, it took a year later until the really good stuff came out, just like it will take a year until PS3 will have their titles like the Grand Turismo, Metal Gear Solid and Killzone. Those are gonna really show off the power of the PS3 and it will blow the 360 away in terms of graphics.

I WILL buy a PS3 one day, when there is a game thats released worth buying it for. Right now my 360 is more than enough to keep me entertained.

If you look at the specs, the PS3 is a much better value.

Xbox 360 Premium 20GB 399
Wifi Adapter 100
HD DVD add-on 200
= 699

PS3 60gb
comes with the WIFI built in + Blu-Ray DVD + a bigger 60GB HD (plus it comes with the most important thing, HDMI output)
= 599

You had me until the most important HDMI output. Bleh!

Anywho, I love my 360 as well but the WOW factor goes to the PS3. Until the games start rolling in I'm diggin' playing the demos and Resistance: Fall of Man.

DID YOU KNOW... Sony was IN THE RED for sales the week after Christmas because more people returned it than bought it for the entire week?

DID YOU KNOW that people are taking hits selling the PS3 on Ebay for less than they paid, ALREADY!

DID YOU KNOW that pre-Christmas people were buying Wiis and Zelda at literally JUST shy of a 1:1 ratio in the same purchase? Where as PS3 was selling approximately 1 game per 6 PS3 units. What does that mean? People only bought them to sell them... hence the RED week after Christmas.

By the same date (Dec 3rd) 2006, Wii had sold THREE TIMES as many copies as the Ps3. And this is before the returns rush...

Currently, Wii has sold over 4 million units worldwide... where as the PS3 has just hit 2 million units worldwide. PS3 sales are BELOW expected, where as the Wii is beyond all expectations.

Nintendo makes a PROFIT for each console sold, SONY takes a HIT!

Sorry to say, but Nintendo is in a MUCH better place than Sony right now... and I won't even get into the "battlechest" fund which they haven't even touched yet.

No matter if Sony or Nintendo is in the red, green, yellow, black, I don't care, I'd still take ps3 over wii.

dont care about WiFi, or HDMI output, and currently dont have anything at my apt that would support HD output, so umm Ill take the 400 dollar 360 over the 600 dollar PS3. Not to mention all my regular Xbox titles can still be played

Duh... Sony will be in the red for years with the PS3. Hell, Microsoft FINALLY is turning a SMALL profit on the 360 after the manufacturing costs fell for them. They didn't make a dime off of the original x-box hardware. And as far as in the red quantity sold figures, it doesn't matter since the retailer is taking it back, not Sony. That doesn't hurt Sony's bottom line.

As for the clowns on e-bay, that's thier fault for not putting it on a reserve auction, they deserve to lose money for being stupid.

We've been over this... it's a RED week every week, money speaking. It's a short term big victory for Nintendo but the PS3 will still over power the other consoles in the long run, period. With a staggering userbase and recent polls showing 60% of PS2 owners leaning towards a PS3... well, you do the math and quickly see how many units they will move over the next 2 years.

Wow, this is a shocker... Sony didn't have the units on the shelves thanks to the BR laser shortage. If you don't have the units on the shelf how can you sell them?

$600.00 is the release price. People aren't in a big hurry to spend that kind of money, when they know it'll come down eventually; and, there is a $250.00 competitor that also just hit the market.

Wow, someone got their panties in a bunch. Did you buy Sony stock or something?

First off, in your rush to reply you completely misunderstood what I was saying. So I'll go over it again for you...

What I meant by being RED for that week was the fact that more PS3's were RETURNED than PURCHASED. It's absolutely PATHETIC that a brand new release console would suffer more returns than purchases within a month of release.

Now, you say that it doesn't hurt Sony that people returned more than they bought? Hah, well, using some pretty simple logic one can deduct that if more units were returned than sold, that means retailers won't be ordering new PS3s from Sony, right? Pretty sure that hits the "bottom line."

On to your fantastic point in regards to the sellers "not using a reserve, so they must be stupid." Wow. Well, for starters the entire point of that fact was to show that the demand for the PS3 is so low, that it isn't even able to reach retail prices...mind you, the unit was supposed to be "in high demand due to a shortage of blu ray lasers" right?

As for the sellers being stupid...laugh. The sellers are selling the PS3 at a loss because: they can't return it, no one wants it, and the perceived value to the public is lower than what they paid for it. Therefor, using a Reserve would benefit them how? Of that's right, it wouldn't. Their Ebay auction fees would just be higher, and NO ONE would ever buy it. Good idea!

When it comes down to it, it's quite simple...your arguments don't hold water because you are n denial. Here's why: You said the reason that Wii has sold more units was due to the fact that PS3 was "unfairly" limited due to Blu Ray supplies. Ok, well... problem with that is that now the PS3 is found in vast stacks in retails worldwide...collecting dust. The Wii continues to sell rapidly.

I have a friend who works at Best Buy, and he said he has been tracking the Wii and PS3 supply and demand since release for fun. He said just last week on a single day he answered the phones and tallied 148 people inquiring if they had a Nintendo Wii in stock, and 3 (Yes, THREE) total calls for a PS3.

So, by my math (Correct me if I am wrong here), 148/3= 49.33. Therefor, based on VERY recent consumer interest that puts the Wii at just shy of 50 times more popular.

Looks like your poll numbers might be a little conflicting with the real world

Wait a few months, ps3 will be outselling everything, and if not, who cares. Ps3 is here to stay.

MCV report reports that Gabe Newell, the founder and managing director of Valve Software, has labelled the PlayStation 3 "a total disaster."

"The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," Newell told Game Informer magazine. "I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a ‘do over’. Just say, ‘This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.’"

Newell drop another bomb. He believes that the Nintendo Wii will win the console war.

"I’m betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I’m crazy. I really like everything that Nintendo is doing."
Found this from:

Now of course this is early even in my opinion for such a bold claim, but he may have a point.

Why do a lot of people buy a console? People buy a console system so they can sit in a room with their friends/family and have a good time. The games are typically more simplistic and user friendly, and that's basically it.

Compare that to a PC platform. PC games can get quite complicated, are less user/newbie friendly, and are typically played physcailly alone, but often over a network with friends.

They are two TOTALLY different experiences. I enjoy the "console" experience from time to time very much. It can be a real blast to screw around playing video games with your friends.

At the same time, I am an avid PC gamer and enjoy my more complex and graphically gorgeous games as well.

HERE IS WHERE PS3 went wrong, *IMO*: Sony tried to make the PS3 act and work like a PC. They went hardcore into expensive components to create never before seen console graphics. The problem however is this... it lacks the one thing that makes a PC a PC- the mouse and keyboard! The main reason I dislike ANY console is the fact that you simply can NOT play certain games without a mouse and keyboard. FPS and MMORPG games simply require them.

So, that said, Sony is asking a Pc price for their console system... but without a true PC experience. Why aren't people buying it? Because they can play just about anything on their PC that they could on the PS3, it will look just as good, and probably run smoother on their PC. And with the money they saved they can go snag a Wii and still enjoy the console experience when they want to.

That's my take at least.
