So, you would hit it, if conditions were favorable?

Steretypes exist because for the most part, they are true. Can't tell you how many football players in high school would fall asleep in class, never turn in homework, and never give presentations when everyone else did yet somehow managed to maintain a B average, hmm odd... Also how many football players do you hear of who even make it to the NFL, and yet continue to make millions after they retire? I can think of a few, but most end up doing nothing, blowing their money away, and resorting to selling super bowl rings and signing autographs for money, etc. because they are idiots. John Elway is the exception that comes to mind... one of the smartest men I know. Starts a dealership chain while still playing football, after a few years sells it to Autonation for $100 million, then they kick him off and decide to change the name, and now hes starting about talking about starting up another chain again, LOL.

No need for me to repeat it, it's been said in a movie:

Harry Burns: You realize of course that we could never be friends.
Sally Albright: Why not?
Harry Burns: What I'm saying is - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape or form - is that men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.
Sally Albright: That's not true. I have a number of men friends and there is no sex involved.
Harry Burns: No you don't.
Sally Albright: Yes I do.
Harry Burns: No you don't.
Sally Albright: Yes I do.
Harry Burns: You only think you do.
Sally Albright: You say I'm having sex with these men without my knowledge?
Harry Burns: No, what I'm saying is they all WANT to have sex with you.
Sally Albright: They do not.
Harry Burns: Do too.
Sally Albright: They do not.
Harry Burns: Do too.
Sally Albright: How do you know?
Harry Burns: Because no man can be friends with a woman that he finds attractive. He always wants to have sex with her.
Sally Albright: So, you're saying that a man can be friends with a woman he finds unattractive?
Harry Burns: No. You pretty much want to nail 'em too.
Sally Albright: What if THEY don't want to have sex with YOU?
Harry Burns: Doesn't matter because the sex thing is already out there so the friendship is ultimately doomed and that is the end of the story.
Sally Albright: Well, I guess we're not going to be friends then.
Harry Burns: I guess not.
Sally Albright: That's too bad. You were the only person I knew in New York.

And to elaborate a bit...it's hypocritical for women bashing men for not being capable of being buddies. They say all we want is sex (which isn't *entirely* untrue, but it's leaving out the beer and cars/trucks/cycles part), but when we find a woman we can talk to and relate with, then want to have sex with them, we're buttheads? Typical female-think :P

ok take the superstars out of the picture... defensive ends, backup running backs, tackles, etc.
Those that you mentioned are also intelligent, but percentage wise, most football players (not necessarily those who go pro) are idiots.

Actually, I played, and started, everything my school had to offer, except wrestling and tennis. I maintained a 4.0 average in advance placement courses and graduated second in a class of 365. I scored in the top 1% of every standardized test of the time, as well. When I went to VA Boy's State, most of the guys there were not only the top of their class academically, they were athletes. Most athletes don't make it to the pros; but, a lot of the ones that do, are well educated. The few that aren't stand out like sore thumbs. These are the people that justify the erroneous stereotype you have outlined. Besides, I noticed a lot of non athletes that didn't do too well in school either. Many of them do just as poorly in life as the "dumb jock." It's just not nearly as satisfying to make fun of these people. Probably because you were never envious of them in any way.

The only time I was envious was when I had to do my homework and they didn't because they were the star wide receiver, star quarterback, etc. Otherwise I was perfectly content . I can not think of a single football player at my high school, save maybe one or two, that got decent grades on their one. I remember one guy, Dan, who used ot fall asleep in every class almost every day. None of the teachers did anything and he still maintained his B average. one day a teacher said enough is enough and woke him up by banging her yardstick on his desk and yelling at him to wake up. She got fired. Another player got away with rape on prom night, the cop that "arrested him" was a fan of the team and recommended minimized charges be pressed instead of rape. I think he got indecent exposure if I remember right.

it was funny a few years ago when I saw him bagging groceries at King Soopers. I supposed its Shadenfraudah or however you spell it... taking delight in others misery... but I can live with that .

YEP:

Had a roommate in college that was a Miss State 2nd runner up: Add to this that she was my workout partner, and just about the perfect women. We just did not hit it off that way and were friends that loved each other, just not in love with each other. Just the way it worked out.

Though there were benefits of it: good looking women tend to hang out with other good looking women: she was always setting me up with someone…… Plus we had a rule: if I saw a hot girl, she would go over and make the intro….I'd do the same for her. Also worked out very well

Although there was a down side: we went to school in the south and male/female roommates were not common. I had been trying to go out with one particular girl for about 6 months. Finally got the date, and we stopped by my place on the way to the lake that evening: there was my roommate with low light, jazz on the stereo and just in a pair of shorts and a crop top studying for a test: needless to say, very short lived date that night.

Woof

Whoa . . . "shadenfreuder"

I'm not even going to comment on spelling (oops, I just did), I'm just amazed to see that word in this forum. (It should have been dzervit's screen name).

Well done!

If I was single I'd be all over that! But I have been and always will be loyal to my wife. Although, some do say talking about sex with a person of the opposite gender is cheating.

One of my ex-girlfriends had a gay friend named Tommy 10 inch. I never saw him with another guy though. He must've been keeping it behind closed doors or something.

So can you show me a football player that is doing cancer research?

Besides that, what I said was that we give more attention to the jock for their accomplishments on the playing field than the guy trying to find a cure for cancer.
