The Boss is a forthcoming large-displacement V8 engine project at Ford Motor Company. The engine project was reportedly cancelled in 2005 as the company focused on its existing Triton V8 and V10, but was reportedly[1] revived in early 2006 by Mark Fields. The large engine will compete with DaimlerChrysler's new Hemi and General Motors' large Vortec engines. Ford is currently unable to compete with these large V8 engines in the pickup truck, SUV, and luxury car markets with its 5.4 L Modular V8.
The Boss engine will reportedly displace 6.2 L, with the ability to exceed 7.0 L in future applications, and produce more than 425 hp (317 kW) and 425 ft·lbf (576 N·m). It will be built at Cleveland Engine in Cleveland, Ohio. The first application will be Ford's F-Series pickup trucks produced at Dearborn Truck. It has been rumored that the Hurricane will retain many of the Modular V8 design cues such as a deep skirt block with cross bolted main caps, oiling system design, and multivalve overhead camshaft valve train arrangement but it will have much wider bore spacing and bearing surfaces.
The engine was initially called the "Hurricane", but this was changed in mid 2006 to the storied Boss name[2] in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

the new 5.7 toyota will start being produced in February as will a 4 door cab latter on that is bigger than the dodge mega cab. the trucks being made right now have the smaller v-8 and a 4 door similar in size to the dodge regular cab.
the 5.7 will be rated at 370 to 380 hp but in reality will make close to 400.
give chevy credit for getting their new body style to market right before toyota and for offering a 367 hp 6.0 liter in the 1/2 ton.
i was around these truck all day, all I can say is that the styling will start to grow on you. i think they look better in person than they do in pictures.
like all new platforms, i look for problems to surface with the toyota but it will be strong in it second and third year and it will get real intersting when the 3/4 and 1 tons start showing up in the next few years.

While I love my Ford and I remain loyal to Ford, over the 3 years I've had My '04 I have grown very tired of needing to have warranty work done almost everytime I take it in for an oil change. Every 3000 miles it seems to need some little thing fixed. I have found myself looking at the new Tundra's mainly because Toyota offers a bigger V8 then Ford, and they hold their value better then the domestics. After 2 years of incentives by Ford my '04 is worth less then half of what I paid for it.

Yup, the dog runs strong and proud and stock for stock will lay waste to any Ford 5.4 and the 5.7 will give the V10 Ford a strong run.
Build quaily with Dodge has greatly improved, but Ford still has an edge in paint and body quality, as for over all quality, my 06 Ram to date is holding up better than my last 02 and 04 F-150 at 11,000 Km, no warenty work on the dodge.
The 5.7 is a old engine, interduced in 02 and it's not a true Hemi by old school measuring.
Ford moduler engines ( trucks ) are not built for high H/P but for low end torque, a 460 up dated will lay waste to GM's 6.0, the new hemi 6.1 and the Ford v/10 but Ford's limited to what can fit betwean the Fenders of the F-150 with old school displacement.
Who Knows how stabble gas prices will be, that's going to be the real crunch for bigger displacement engines.
