Damn, just fell a little more in love with him.
That was sacrilege IMO. Changing a song of that magnitude to make it alternative is just wrong. To me, it was tantamount to rewriting some classical music piece from back in the day.

Chris Daughtry won't be winning, that much we know. He's got a band that WON'T be getting a deal in the event that he were to win. Top 5 sure, but not an American Idol.

I think Paula was a little tipsy tonight. Still hot though.

Are you kidding me?? Apparently you aren't a fan of Johnny Cash. If you were you'd know that he did the exact same thing. He was a huge fan of taking music and putting your own twist to it. For example the song Hurt that he recorded in 2002 was originally a Nine Inch Nails song. His whole career he was known for either writing a great song or taking a good song and putting his own unique twist to it. I think the man in black would have loved it.

I agree. Not to mention all the other songs that were redone with the bands own twist. IMO Chris should win, but I don't know if he is "American Idol" status. But whatever comes out of this for him, he deserves it.

I also thought Paula was high or something. She seemed to calm down towards the end of the night though.

I guess that version of "Walk the Line" was originally done by Live. I've never heard it before so I don't know how close Chris stuck to the original. I agree that Cash actually encouraged remakes and diversity in music. He was considered a rebel in his day for not conforming to the standards. Then his later work with U2, NIN, and the like.
Here's an interesting site. They've been pretty accurate in the past....

For the record, after listening to the Live version, it wasn't really the same. Chatter says that it was a Social Distortion version of the song, FYI.

The original was better. And yes I'm a Cash fan. Yes, I know he remade that NIN song (his was far better). I guess if I hear something done one way first, and it's done extremely well, then anything else is less than good.

I also feels like Chris is selling out to make it, seeing as how he had a fairly popular band in NC. Those guys won't get to play with him (should he win, which I don't think he will) due to the contract he's signed with the show. Stick it out with the band, or try on my own? I think he's chosen the wrong path.

Well, I hope Chris stays true to what he does. Either way, I'm a fan.

I can understand what your saying about Cash's song being better, but I have to say, we are judging Chris' version of the song not the original. he took a song and made it his own. That's the tough part to get past. Once you can get past that, you'll see what I mean.

His version was very unique to say the least. He didn't butcher the song, he simply sung his version, and I will have to say ... he did an OUTSTANDING job.

First of all Chris is the only one that hasn't sold out. One of the rare things that Simon has said and everybody (the crowd and Paula and Randy) agreed with is that in 5 years of the show Chris is the only one that hasn't sold out. I actually think he used "compromised himself."

I think that he may have some leeway into getting his band to play with him. And even if not, who are we to judge. I haven't heard his band, for all I know they could suck and he did make the right choice. I'm sure he's thought about this much more than you or I have, I'm not going to question another mans decision when I don't have the full story.
