Any Diabetics here?
I am a diabetic. Fasting your blood sugar level should be below about 115 and above about 50-60. Get to your doctor. I have been diabetic since 93 and my blood sugar was never that high. I am mostly in the good range with medication and watching what I eat (no sugar and watch out on the carbs). There are a lot of things that high blood sugar causes, blindness, heart attacks, strokes, poor circulation to the point of amputation. With those numbers, you are way above where you should be. What they will do is give you a glucose tolerance test. It is a pain, because they have to draw blood every half hour after they give you a bottle of basically flavored sugar water. They check every half hour to see how you body is dealing with the glucose. If I remember for me it was for either 3 or 5 hours. They also collect urine to test for glucose in it.
It could be your pancreas has stopped creating insulin, or in my case the body doesn't use the insulin correctly, no matter how much my pancreas creates.
As I said, get to the doctor. Diabetise is not something to ignore.

I am learning that very quickly. I am tempted to go to the ER after work today and see what they can do. My doctor says he cant see me till the 10th, but everyone is asking me why I am here and not at work. Right now I feel find, and Since Firday evening, I have been eating the right way. My mother in law is a diabetic, and I am on her diet until the doc tells me other wise.

If I could go back and know now what I didnt know then, I would have started watching my diet about 2 years ago.
It's not my place to tell you what to do Ryan, but I would start watching what you eat now.

I am getting back on my diet plan as of today actually.
Back in the spring before I hurt my knee I lost around 50pds then I put it back on because I could not get out of the house due to the knee. But its better now so the plan started back today.
there is a lot of well intentioned mis information in this thread.
Stop reading the internet and get your butt to a Dr. Find an Endocrinologist or a Diabetes Education Center so you are sure you are getting GOOD info from people that know ...
Here is link to education programs - would be great place to start

Doug
EDIT - No matter what you read or believe the unfortunate reality is that every moment that your blood sugar is above normal causes damage to small blood vessels and nerves. The higher the BG the quicker damage happens.

I'm sure a lot depends on factors other than genes, although those ar the one thing you can't escape from or avoid.

I work for Kroger pharmacy and I believe that if you buy 50 of the strips for the Kroger meter for $24.99 you get the Kroger meter for free. There are also other programs to get a meter for a discount even if you don't have health insurance.
If you already do have a meter, you should check your fasting blood sugar at minimum once daily. Test it at different times of the day so you can get a feel for any peaks or troughs or irregularities. Keep those readings in a little book so that you can show your doctor when you finally get to see him/her. Of course if you have more readings you will have that much more information. Knowledge is always power.
I definitely recommend seeing a doctor. Diabetes would usually be confirmed by multiple readings of fasting blood glucose greater than 126 (or somewhere close to that number).
If you have any questions about anything pharmacy related feel free to ask. If I don't know it, I can easily look it up.

Good luck with the doctor -- hope everything gets squared away for you!
Jamz, My oldest son has type 2 and if your blood sugar is above 500 you should be in the emergency room and not waiting to see your doctor. I am not trying to scare you but you need to be totally aware of your situation NOW. My son has had type 2 for many years but is now controlling his sugar intake and is now only taking a pill each day instead of the needle. My son simply went for an eye exam and they knew right away he was having sugar problems they called me i came picked him up and took him to the doctors, they proceeded to call an ambulance and took him to the ER asap. His blood sugar was a tad below 600. Listen up please and take your butt into the ER, do not wait to see anyone!!! get it down now. I wish you all the best and keep us updated bro!!.
Also be sure to watch your carb intake as this turns to sugar and will affect you. Good things are anything diet coke, pepsi, tea, watch bread intake, pasta anything with lots of carbs...
