"We wish you a merry holiday"?

So, it's not PC to say Christmas anymore? WTF!

What do you think about this controversy?

I'm not at all religious. Not at all. I don't even like the "holiday" season (Thanksgiving/Christmas). When I was a kid my parents split up and there were several "holiday" seasons that were screwed up because of it. It left me with a bad impression. That's me though.

So, I'm not a big fan of Christmas but there are a lot of people who really like it. I think it's good that families enjoy this time together. I'm not religious but I do believe that traditions should go on. I think that Christmas and other "holidays" are part of our heritage. I don't think that people who think we should be PC and lump it all in to "holiday" are right. I think they are going too far. Why do they do this? Is it possibly because religion has been a topic in the press for a while? Maybe because some people in high positions have admitted that they are religious?

Even though feelings from the past come up this time of year I intend to enjoy the company of family and friends this Christmas. How about you?

Some people think that the government cannot acknowledge any religious holiday due to the 'separation of church and state'. This is a false assumption and is a complete misunderstanding of the law. What the law says is that the government cannot promote one religion over any other. This means that they either must acknowledge all religions or none. Well, they already acknowledge many religious holidays of several religions. The Supreme Court has ruled in several cases that governments must acknowledge different religions because they already acknowledge some. Therefore when stupid local politicians decide to 'ban Christmas', they are actually breaking the law and discriminating against Christians. It is illegal for them to discriminate against Christmas.

RockyJ, I dont think even "Happy Holidays" or "Holiday", is acceptable anymore either. Holiday is a derivitive of "Holy Day", so, the correct way to say "Merry Christmas" is "Happy Festivus". It is a crying shame if you ask me.

We had our annual Christmas dinner last night with friends of ours. They are the farthest thing from political. They don't listen to talk radio. They don't discuss politics. They don't discuss religion. (I am setting this up so you do not falsely typecast them as right wing Christian conservatives)

My friend told me that they went into their local Lowe's yesterday to buy their Christmas tree, something they have done for the last five years. After seeing the signs all around for "Holiday Trees" they called the manager over, a bit tongue in cheek, and let them know that they were looking for a "Christmas Tree" and were somewhat offended and would be taking their business elsewhere. They went to Home Depot and found what they were looking for.

This is a topic that gets under my skin.

If you don't want to celebrate Christmas, good for you.
If you don't want to use the word Christmas, good for you.
If you don't believe in Christmas, good for you.
If your not a Christian, good for you.
If you think Christmas should be called something else....kiss my azz.

Leave my fooking Holiday alone and get a life.

Face it.....Christianity is the MAJORITY in this country....thus will ALWAYS be pursecuted as such by the MINORITIES.....

...this is true for EVERY "issue".....until a group is considered a "minority".....its rights will forever be limited in the political arena because no one wants to upset the "minorities"....

...Welcome to the USofA....this is how things have operated once "civil rights" became a political issue....this is how things will always operate....get used to it......or move elsewhere....

(by no means am I christian and by no means am I suggesting anything racisit)

I'm not big into christianity, was raised with it every day of my life until I was smart enough to make my own decisions, but I also have no problem with it being caleld Christmas and think that anyone that does should just not celebrate and do us all a favor.

The Home Depot and Lowes are next to each other here.

Yesterday, I went to get a tree. We usually get a Douglas Fir and I went to Home Depot first. Their 8-9 ft 'Douglas Fir Christmas trees were $59 - $89.

So I drove over to Lowes and they had a perfect 8' Douglas Fir for $41.
That's when I noticed the sign that it was a 'Holiday Tree'.

You could see my dilemma, the Holiday tree was going to be somewhere between $18 to $40 cheaper than the Christmas tree.

I was shopping by myself and there was no one to turn to for advice.
So, I had to ask myself, WWJD?

Then I remembered that the Christmas tree was all about putting gifts under it, that we had shopped for at stores, that depended so much on on these yearend sales to finish in the Black. And that without the Christmas Tree many would not turn a profit...

...And then I remembered that Jesus was some guy who used a bullwhip to drive the moneylenders out of his Father's Temple.

So, I bought a Holiday Tree. When I got it home I called it a Christmas Tree and I have an extra $18 plus in my pocket.

Just trying to figure out how

"Leave behind all that you have and Follow me."

got changed into

"Spend all that you have and put it under my Christmas Tree."
