Talking deer hunter safety.

now this would be funny to see.

LOGANTON, Pa. (AP) - With deer hunters out all over the woods, a farmer has decided to paint his cows, horses and even his dog bright orange to make sure they aren't mistaken for deer.

Friz Konieczka doesn't want to take any chances because he heard about a neighbor's horse being shot during hunting season several years ago.

Konieczka, a Clinton County farmer, wants his animals to stand out - and they do. Fluorescent orange paint lines their backs and heir sides.

Konieczka said he'd rather spend $5 for a can of orange paint than have one of his animals killed or injured.

He painted his horses, his cows, his goats, his turkeys and even his Dalmatian, Buddy.

I wouldn't really call the farmer a dumb F@#&. He is just trying to protect his best interest. Around here you don't need hunter safety course if you are over 18 (I think). They will give a gun and a tag to any idiot that walks into the store able to breathe. I gave up deer hunting 10 years ago because there had gotten to be way too many idiots out there. Last year in northern WI there was a group of hunters that were murdered over a tree stand. Some moron from MN who couldn't even speak english came into WI and was trespassing on private property. This group of hunters kicked him out of one of their stands. Never even asked him to vacate the property, just the stand. He left for a while and came back and murdered the whole group.

I love hunting and feel that it is the best way to control a out of control population but there are just too many idiots out there these days.

I remember that incident well. Painting your animals orange just tells me he is a few fries short of a happy meal. I have plenty of acres (60+) and if i find a tresspasser i treat him like a criminal from the first time i see him/her. I don't ***** foot around i get right to the point and with my pistol drawn i call them out. Never give them the upper hand ever. I agree there are many fools that should never have a gun much less hunt with one. I would never give up something i love because of idiots. All you need to be is one step ahead of them always. I do allow some folks to hunt my land if: they knock on my door and ask, never leave anything you brought with you, don't bring a friend (unless i meet him).

I'll tell ya'll something FUNNY.....

Few years back, the group known as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) got the bright idea that they where going to save some of the deer herd...I believe it was in the upper northeast . They captured multiple deer, put "Blaze Orange" vest on them, then turned them lose. DUUUHHH! They where hoping hunters wouldn't shoot thinking it was other hunters....It was a free for all. Hunters could see the deer coming a mile away.
On the other hand, I can understand the farmer painting his cattle (animals). I know of many calves that get shot ever year because of irresponsible hunters. That's also one reason other hunters get shot because of "Ground Checking"...Shoot at it, hope you hit it, then see what it was. If you DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, YOU CAN"T SEE IT....DON"T SHOOT IT

I remember when they attempted to disrupt a prairie dog hunt a while back. Their strategy was to make a ton of noise to scare them into their holes. Instead it made them pop up to see what was happening resulting in a record kill. I just read somewhere that they are passing out literature to children titled "Your Daddy Kills Animals!" that paints hunters and anglers as blood thirsty psychopaths. What a bunch of idiots!

I would have to agree with you that the paint was a bit much. I can understand his thoughts, but there has got to be better ways of getting the results. I think there are a lot more cows shot each year from stray gun fire than there are of mistaken idenity.

From your sig I can tell you know what a high powered rifle is and what it is capable of. When people see a deer they just start shooting not thinking about what is beyond the target. Back in my days I used a 30-06 auto. I could accurately hit a beer can at 400 yards so you know anything within a mile is going to be fair game for a stray. There was a story on the news over the weekend of a car driving through downtown Madison that was hit in the windsheild by a stray rifle load. They said that from the angle it hit that it must have traveld about 5 miles. It never even went through the glass. It was embedded in the window.

I am all for animal rights, and will even brake for gophers in the road, but these idiots from PETA should be tied to the trees they hug and whipped into sanity.

One time while hunting state land here in nys they (peta) showed up dressed in funny rabbit, deer etc.. suits and followed us into the woods during bow hunting opener. We were very young just home from nam and now these a-holes. I never to this day have i had a better laugh. While they were running around the woods bangings pans and whatever together they spooked a very small doe right into where i was sitting, out of spite i arrowed the bitch deer, and when the peta's came out of the woods (they heard us hi fiving) i opened the doe up and pulled out the inners, man the look on thier face was still the best laugh i ever had along with some good friends (priceless).

Imagine if you were one of those hunters that opens them up and rips the heart out and take a big bite right in front of them. Now that would be the ultimate priceless.

I have been wondering just what that rifle is in your sig. That thing would be fun for target shooting and if it were within regulations I would consider getting back into deer hunting. Imagine the look on peoples faces when you pull that out of the truck. I was doing a little reading at the rag shelf while the wife was shopping the other day and I thought I seen one that took a .308 round. Does this sound right? My father-in-law has a .308 for hunting so I think that would pass. What kind of price would something like that bring as well?

I just saw the story that sparked this thread on TV. My dish net gets UPN "9" out of NY. It really wasn't as bad as it looked. Still a little carried away though.
