I have to say that , next to a well thought out romantic dinner for my wife, my favorite type of cooking is "Camp cooking"... Not to be confused with "grilling out", "BBQ-ing", or anything of the sort.

I did most of the cooking minus deserts the first few years we were married. I grew up with to working parents, Hot dogs, corn dogs and frozen pizzas everyday for lunch all summer long got old. So one day I opened mom's cook books and began making lunchs. Started experimenting with the recipes adding a few of my own ingredients deleting things that didn't sound so good or didn't have and substituting for things we had. Now have a few trade mark dishes people request me to make for pot lucks. Wife has always made Deserts to die for, Chocalate Chip Cookies that melt on you tounge before you can close your mouth. I have made myself sick several times from them. But she just recently discovered that the smoke detector in the hall is not the timer for the stove.

Like fish, rabbit, or squirrel wrapped in some foil and thrown on some hot coals? That's what I'm talkin bout.

Agreed! I can throw together a MEAN chili (yes, from scratch with all fresh ingredients) around a camp fire. You have to be able to eat HOT food to truly understand the flavor. I can dumb it down too, but hate to. And no, it's not just hot. I hate it when people make chili just to prove how much hot sauce they can mix with Hormel.

Then there's all kinds of other things you can do in a fire that I'll take over something equivalent that comes out of a kitchen. Garlic corn. Fire cooked garlic brats. Biscuit on a stick. Damn! I'm cooking in the fireplace tonight.

Just about everything I eat is frozen microwave food. Pizza, chicken patties, shrimp, hot pockets, etc.

Edit: I forgot about this! There is this "old" log cabin down by the Clinch river in Tennessee. A friend of mine knew the owner and he let me and another friend stay in it for the weekend. This cabin was over 100 years old. Uh huh, it had a pot belly cooking stove, a fireplace, a living room with some old timey furniture, a bedroom, and a front and back door. I told you it was old. Well, it was the middle of Fall and it was cold that night, so we had the fireplace roaring. We were all sitting around sipping on some beer, and I had the squirrel we shot that day frying on the pot belly. We threw a few potatoes wrapped in tin-foil in the fireplace to go with the squirrel. That was some good eatin', and some good times. Ahhh, memories from long ago...

Same here. Some of my findest memories are camp cooking for a group of 6 friends one long weekend. Breakfast consisted of 2 camp stoves, one cast iron skillet for eggs and bacon and 3 cast irons for taters and onions. MMMMMM! Never peeled so many taters in one sitting and they scarfed up every last bite, including the burnt crust off the bottom of the pan.

I love to cook in the kitchen too. I married a nice Italian raised woman and learned spicy can be a relative term. And I'm not talking just food either.

I do a lot of cooking. Haven't recently b/c I've been so busy w/ other things but I love to cook. So much cheaper to make great food yourself than to have to go out and buy it somewhere. Try to still cook myself at least a couple times a week. I usually end up mostly eating cliff bars and sandwiches all week though.

This is Tuna with a honey mustard sauce on it that's quick pan seared so the outside is cook and the inside is just hot. I forgot a lot of the other stuff on it. It was a mix of a bunch of different recipies. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3.../food/tuna.jpg

Funny you should mention this. Saturday I made my very first pot roast. Peeled some fresh carrots, onions & taters. The only thing that wasn't fresh was the canned mushrooms my daughter suggested. It was so tender we didn't need knives & our 1 year old even enjoyed some of it.

I've never been much of a cook except with a recipe book. However I have been making the turkey & stuffing on Thanksgiving since I was in the single digits.
