Fatz ,
The other symbols are for literary uses more than programming. Brackets are punctuation marks, used in pairs to set apart or interject text within other text. Types of brackets include parentheses ( ), (the singular is parenthesis) square brackets [ ], braces { }, and angle brackets 〈 〉. All these forms may be used according to typographical conventions that may vary from publication to publication and may vary even more from language to language.

Other example taken from iridis encyclopedia:

apostrophe ’
bracket - i.e., parentheses-or round brackets ( ) , square brackets [ ] , curly brackets-or braces{ }
colon :
comma ,
dash – i.e., en dash – , em dash — , and quotation dash ―
ellipsis or suspension points ...
exclamation mark !
full stop or period .
hyphen -
question mark ?
quotation marks (British English: inverted commas) and guillemets ‘ ’ , " " , “ ” , ‹ ›
semicolon ;
slash or solidus /

The following typographical symbols or glyphs are not true punctuation marks:

ampersand &
asterisk *
bullet •
commercial at @
dagger or obelisk † and double dagger ‡
number sign # – aka pound sign, hash, crosshatch, octothorpe, etc.
prime ′
tilde or swung dash ~
underscore _
vertical bar | Also known as a Verticon

Hope that clears some things up!
