Lets just shoot the guy who came up with hooked on phonics
The spelling here has gotten worse and worse and you can tell that people are trying to spell words the way they sound. I'm as guilty as the next person of typing quickly and not going back to correct but there are dozens of posts where the same word is misspelled 5 or six times.
Sometimes I edit the thread titles so that the search will work but I cant keep up any more...
Go to iespell.com and download it - Its a good program - its free - right click to spell check any form in IE

When are these things actually supposed to be use? ^
Besides to point at the post above it.
Or this thing ~
Better yet.. What is that thing?
Or the little thing with the \ when you hit (shft + \) you get | What is that and when do you use it?
What is the definitive differences between [] , {} , and these ()

sorry PSS, I was very amused at everyone's interpretation of menage a trois,

| is the symbol for "so that"
Like this: x | x =5 (x so that x equals 5)
This: "~" is a tilde. It means 'like' or approximately. It's also common as hell converting long file names to 8.3 file names in older windows operating systems.
The other symbols are just reserved characters the programmer who put together the forum code came up with I think. I'm not aware of any standard relating to those.
"^" is the exponential notation sign.
x^5 = x to the 5th power.
Wow I feel like a geek.
