Question Received A Check... Was Not Signed

Well, I had my HS graduation party last week and of course I received a lot of checks. One check was not signed by the person who wrote it. Unfortunately it was from the people that drove down from NY, so I know I have to send it back. Im going to send the check back along with the thank you card, a nice note asking them to sign and return it, and a stamp too.
But I have no idea what to write on the note. What is a nice way to tell them they forgot to sign it and please return it?? Any ideas are much appreciated!! Thanks!!

Dear Punk

I appreciate the monetary gift but it appears you forgot to sign the check.
Later, peace out.

Dear Aunt Edna:

It was great to see you at my graduation party on X. This is a big point in my life and I'm anxious to see what the future holds in store for me.

I sincerely appreciate the money that you gave me as a gift. It will be put to good use one you get off your lazy **** and put pen to paper and sign the damn thing. What? Do you think I'm a professional forgerty artist?! My mom raised a better boy than that! I'm not sure how you people in New York handle this type of thing but, being the nice guy that I am, I went down and found a guy at the Minute Mart named Ralph to sign it for me. While I know you wanted me to have this amount of cash, he added three zeros and successfully changed the text to reflect that as well.

See, here's the problem. When he added the two zeros to your $50 check, the $5000 check bounced. So, I'm sorry about all of that but, can you give me that $50 please? Also, can you send an additional $500 to bail me out of jail for fraud?

Your Loving Nephew,

Timmy

Dear ____________,

Thank you so much for thinking of me during this special time in my life. It means a lot to me that you could join me during this time. I also want to thank you for your thoughtful gift of cash. Unfortunately, I noticed that the check was not signed, so I wanted to return it you so that it could be signed. The money will be very helpful as I begin the next stage of my life.

Thanks again,

JTDEERE

Dear Aunt Ethel:

Thanks so much for making the time to travel so far just to attend my graduation party! I really appreciated it, as well as your gift of money -- it will really come in handy at school next fall!

As you can see, I am sending the check back to you. When I went to cash it, I realized that you forgot to sign it! Mom and Dad said to look out for something like this with you -- I guess they were right! (Just kidding!)

If you don't mind, go ahead and sign it and mail it back to me using the stamped envelope that I have included. Thanks again for your generosity!

Love,

JTDeere

Or, you could just have someone sign their name to the check and take it to the bank and cash it. No one would ever be the wiser. Most people never get their checks back, and if they do, they will remember writing the check and will never remember that they didn't sign it. The people at your bank don't know what the signature should look like.

Ahh heck, I'll write a good one after that... LOL!

Dear X,

It was great to see you at my graduation party last week. I really appreciate you making the trip down to celebrate with all of us. It was a time that I'll remember for the rest of my life and knowing that you were able to share it with me.

Thank you very much for the check for $X. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to deposit it into my account due to the lack of a signature on the check itself. I really hate to bother you with this and I hope you understand.

Again, I really appreciate you coming down to share this day with me. I look forward to seeing you again.

Love,

Billy-Bob Jollyman

Sounds good, but when I was writing my wedding thank you notes it was "etiquette" not to say $X. Instead say "Thank you so much for your generous gift". I think it is considered "tacky" to mention money in a thank you card. Also, make sure that the person who sent the gift has received a thank you card before cashing the check.

Sign it, cash it, and don't mention it. Just send a thank you.
