Just call and say, hey, sorry to bother you, but I was getting ready to deposit the money you gave me and noticed it wasn't signed. Can I send it back to be signed?

OR

Hey stupid, you forgot to sign the check you gave me. Are you stupid or something? How am I supposed to buy beer with an unsigned check?...

Actually that was the first time i've ever seen her, and i'll probably never see her again. She lives all the way up in New York.

Since she doesn't know you and probably only gave you the check to appear polite and generous in front of other family members, maybe she intentionally didn't sign it. Perhaps she had no intention of giving you her money at all.

Write a Un-thank you letter and ask for the money PLUS interest…

The signature never, ever, gets checked for authenticity.

I repeat.......never!

Just scribble something on the line, and cash it.

What's written on the check makes no difference. The only part that is ever examined is the part where you write the dollar amount in the little box, in numerals...like $53.76

And even then, companies never check that either. They put it through for whatever the amount is that you owe that month.

Try it.

Next time you pay your phone bill, (or other monthly bill) sign the check Donald Duck, and make the amount for a few dollars less than you owe.

It will cash, and the amount shown on your bank statement will be what you owed on the bill, not what you wrote.

I think your're right. Now that I think about it, she's actually my Dad's aunt, not mine. I guess I shouldnt have sent that stoopid check back. Now I know what to do in case this ever happens again. Thanks guys.

I agree!

It was only for like $50, I could have gotten a full tank of gas with that money.

Or you can just send me over a blank check and i'll write it out for ya Matt.
