Dear Auntie M,

Thank you so much for driving all the way to see me graduate high school. I'm excited about college and all the T&A I will be seeing. I have also heard that between beer and dime bags I will be broke before I know it.

As you have noticed, I sent your check back because you accidentally forgot to sign it. Listen biotch, I have modz to buy for my F150 and you just prevented me from getting the 26" wheels I have always wanted for the best price I have ever seen. I found out though, the guy has lay-a-way, so I put some money down on them and if I don't get your money back in a timely fashion the guy said he would make me pay in "other ways", whatever that means.

Again, great seeing you and I look forward to your money again so I can pay Donny Bonadutchy for my dubs.

Love,

XXXXXX

I think I'd send it back with a little note attached that says:

Dear XXXXXXX,

You can't imagine how much I enjoyed receiving this artistically designed piece of paper. I am really enamored with it. I think it would be worth so much more just knowing you had personally sign it. If you could see your way clear to do me this one little favor, I will be indebted to you for ages.

Maybe sign it somewhere near the bottom right corner so as not to ruin the intrinsic value of the paper itself.

Yours in good health,

XXXXXXXXXXXX

I recommend dropping the indebted line...you don't want to encumber a liability and be sued for an unpaid loan.

Assuming you received other checks, simply take it to the bank in a stack with the rest of them. Fill out a deposit ticket, and send 'em though. I've done this once before and the bank either didn't care or didn't catch 'em.

Likewise, my wife has forgotten to sign many checks that were sent to the credit card companies and even one for the truck payment. These checks are always cashed.

I often get checks missing something or the other. I've had unsigned checks, checks with the written amount not filled in (just the numerical amount), and tons of checks where they didn't put my name on it. I normally have 3-4 checks per week to deposit and I just send them through. If I notice something missing, I'll fill it in. The one time I had an unsigned check I just sent it through (hoping it wouldn't get returned). It went through just fine.

3-4 weeks ago a customer called me back. He was surprised that his check to me from the previous week cleared even though he never put my name on it. To be honest I never noticed.

JT- sorry your aunt cheaped out on you. Don't sweat it, it's only money. She's most likely forgotten all about it. Don't embarrass her by bringing it back up, just let it be.

You didn't actually send the check back to her did you?

What are you crazy? I would have just put it through the back, they wouldn't have even noticed, especially if you would have deposited it with a few others.

Don't know how much it was, but the next time you go to her house, liberate a few items that you can put on ebay and make the cash back, get a little extra for intrest and your troubles.
