This was the coolest bike in the sheds at school and naturally a total fanny magnet

Kinda looks like an old Schwinn Crate...

Lance update:

After a few days of yo-yo-ing the peloton, and after a lapse in judgement by the Discovery boys yesterday, Lance has finally decided the right break formed, and he allowed Jens Voigt to have the yellow jersey. He's only a couple of minutes out, and this allows Discovery to take a more leisurely approach to tuesday, and the rest of the mountain stages. Although Voigt can climb, he shouldn't rank among the top climbers in this tour. Tuesday and the rest of the mountains should be stressful, but I think at this point Lance will follow, and watch those that time trial well. The next to last time trial should give Lance 2 or 3 minutes on most of the field. He already has his minutes on Ullrich, Botero, Vino, etc.

So is that one guy the overall leader or the stage leader or what?

I don't know much about bike racing, is it somewhat like rallye racing? (In regards to how each stage is run)

You are correct Joe, there are several races within the race. There is a stage winner everyday, and the points(time) combine to produce the lowest elapsed score for an overall leader. There is also a points (sprinters) green jersey, a climbers jersey(polka dot red and white) , a team classification, a best young rider jersey (white).

If you are just killing time, and have a cable connections, browse around

www.cyclingnews.com

Look for major Races in the center, slightly left. You will find Tour de France 2005 and there are several topics to click on and read.
(warning, if you don't like cycling, it can be pretty boring according to Mrs. Serotta)

Lance and Discovery just gave a lesson in strategy to all the Tour riders. The lesson is, if you're the strongest and in the best shape, you're hard to beat!

Lance in the yellow leaders jersey, all other contenders further behind!!!!

Lance got separated from his team today early, then got dropped. He fought back to the lead group, then dropped them one by one till he finished alone in second place on the stage, putting time into all his major competitors. WOW, what a rider! He will be missed in two weeks when he retires.

Lance!

I love watching the tour on OLN. It may be the world's greatest sporting event.

Lance is incredible, but all the riders deserve huge respect. Those guys are amazing athletes.

In the UK we have 2 channels that broadcast pretty much full cover of each stage of the T de F.
I have to abandon pretty much all other plans for these 3 weeks to enable me to sit down and pretend I'm even half as fit as these guys.

Anyway I'm interested to know what channel OLN is, and do you happen to know who commentates for that channel ?

Cheers

OLN is a cable channel, therefore it differs from location to location, here it is channel 74.
Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwin, and Bob Roll do most of the commentary, with Phil and Paul carrying the brunt of the work. A tour without Liggett will be a sorry tour.
Yes, I'm addicted, I just watched the replay for the second time today. I'll probably watch the prime time replay also, as it brings in additional comments and interviews.

OK...thanks.

I guess you are getting what we see as ITV (Our largest commercial channel), since Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin do the commentary for that and can't be on 2 channels at once...unless you only see highlights....do you get it live?

The really interesting day comes tomorrow...I go out and ride about 15 miles on my Specialized....ON THE FLAT.....they ride 150 miles and go over 6 mountains !!!

Hey Ho !!!

Yes Lenny, we get the live feed from Phil and Paul. (8:30 am to 11:30 am and 6:30 am to 11:30 am on the mt. stages.) It airs three more times during the day, with the finale in the evening with all the interviews. My schedule is similar to yours. I get out at the crack of dawn, ride with a few of the guys, then get back here to become an armchair director sportif for Armstrong, Kloden, Ullrich, Basso, et al. The pace is wearing me out, I'm not as young as I used to be.

I'm pleased to say we see it more or less in real time....Frogland is one hour ahead.

At least I can get up and have a leisurely breakfast, read the paper, take a leisurely ride through the lanes, come home relax a while.
Have some lunch...then feet up for the afternoon.

You see age does have it's benefits...I'm retired !!

I know what you mean Lenny. I've been retired for 4 years now. Mrs. Serotta keeps trying to convince me to get another job, but as long as the money keeps coming to the mailbox at the end of month I think I'll keep the status quo. We can't afford steak every night, and everyday I pass up cars, truck, and bikes I'd like to own, but the boys don't go without shoes. I can deal with being poor as long as I don't have to work anymore.
