Ok, since I'm on such a roll, I am doing this purely for motivational reasons (I'm cheap)
If I go back to being a filthy rotten smoker, I will personally mail everyone whose replied to this thread, one Canadian dollar.
(future replies don't count

So, Im guessing if I decide to have "one smoke" it will cost me around 100 bucks or so.
How will you know if I lose? Easy, I'll be honest and be up front should I lose my willpower and have a smoke.

This will give me more insentive to stay off them!

Ha!! You wish you could get off that easy! You cant buy me out with some Canadian chump change. Heck, I could'nt even find a place around here that would even accept that funny money as payment.

I seem to recall someone saying .........
No turning back now Habibi, you have to stay the course or we'll jump all over you.
. The unbridled abuse that I would impart upon you would be worth far more than some foreign coinage.

You might actually talk yourself into justifying a $100 (Canadian) smoke. Dont do it!

HA! See, if I wasnt cheap, I woulda said a US dollar, Euro, or Pound LOL

You know what the coolest thing is? I've actually had days where it's never entered my mind once to have a puff, that's remarkable.

Soon as I get a couple more months under my (growing) belt, you will see a new post from me, "Big Fat Habibi Get's a Gym Membership" It's coming for New Year's, I have a sneaky plan to get fit!

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it.

Congrats on your one month anniversery. I know its some times hard but the results are worth it. By now you're probably noticing a huge increase in lung capacity. The great thing is you will continue to notice the increased lung capacity and that capacity will continue to grow for a long time.

If you falter, and I did once with a huge cigar that I inhaled to the nub, don't give up. Just start all over the next day. You don't even have to count it against your time quit if it was a one time slip.

One trick that helps me control my increased appetite is to keep a pitcher of water in the fridge with a peeled lemon in it. When I think I am hungry I drink a full glass of the lemon water. It doesn't work all of the time but it does work most of the time. Plus I stay fully hydrated and my plumbing is flushed clean.

Anyway, great work. Keep it going.

Umm.. if you decide to send out money I'll give you my mailing address.

Time to bring this to the top again. Most of us know you are still not smoking. How's everything else going? Eating, weight gain/lose, temper, friends.. anything change because of not smoking?

Hi serotta,

this is my 72nd day as a non smoker, and it's going surprisingly well.
Maybe because this is my 3rd attempt at quitting? I don't know, but this time I'm going to make it.

The first 30 days was extremely difficult as far as urges go, the next 30 days was surprisingly easy (most days I didn't even think of it), and this last 10 days has been very hard again, especially the last few days.
My craving is strong, no denying it, but I can live with it.

I know from previous experiences, 3 months was the magic number for me.

When I think about smoking now, the cost is a nice deterrent to keep me away. $8+ a pack, forget that noise, I just can't see myself wasting all that money on a dirty, unhealthy, useless habit that will only lead to my early demise.
Yes I know there are studies funded by the Tobacco companies that show smoking as a healthy alternative to vitamins and exercise, but I will use my freedom of choice to not believe their highly paid experts.

Weight gain? Yes, about 20 pounds, but this I expected, and I know I will lose this in the next short while.

Health wise: I feel much more alert, have more energy, and my wife and friends have commented on how my color seems better since I quit.

I would be lying if I said I didn't miss having an occasional smoke, and I think this craving will be with me always, but deciding to stop is the best decision I've made in a long time.

Habibi

Glad to hear that you're still on track Habibi...

One question...

Your color is better? What were you? Purple? Now you're back to the peachy little punk that you used to be pre-smoking?

LOL!

Watch your back kid...

Proud of you bro, keep it up…

Oh, if you stay out of that smoker’s thread maybe your craving wouldn’t have been so bad the last few days, you monkey spanking, goat humping turd…

Anyhow, I am proud of you, keep up the good fight, because it is a good fight that I might try here down the line…

Thanks buddys!

My next hurdle will be getting my *** to the gym and getting into a regular routine again.
That starts Jan 1st (after xmas and all the piggery that goes along with the holidays)

Being in the middle east was a good test for me, if you can survive as a non smoker there, you will make it anywhere.
Remember how smoking laws were virtually non existent in North American 25 - 30 years ago? That's what it's like in certain parts of the middle east right now, it's like going through a time warp.

I remember as a kid growing up in Toronto, my parents took me to the movies, we sat in the balcony so they could smoke.
Taking a flight to Europe? Smokers sat at the rear of the plane (that made a lot of sense didnt it?)
In the bank line up, people were smoking away.
We went to the hospital to see a sick relative, my parents were smoking in the patients room. The only time smoking was forbiden was when oxygen was being used.

Oh how times have changed.

The more educated and knowedgeable we get, the more we make better decisions, this anti-smoking isnt all because of some "anti-smoking *****" like some people think, this is a result of statistical evidence taken by insurance companies, and analyzed by actuaries.

I can see the day coming where smoking will be against the law.
I doubt it will happen in my lifetime, but one day it will happen.
