I Quit!
Good luck...
I'm gonna have to start working on, thinking about, trying to build myself up for, at least cutting down on how much I smoke
I did it once for like 3 months...walking into McDonalds never smelt like that
Really though best of luck, you can do it....and all that stuff

I know how hard it can be. I've tried a couple times. I made it eight months one time. Boy did I feel good! The thing that I find the hardest is when I want to have a few beers. It's really hard not to smoke when drinking. I'm not going to give up the beers yet though!
When I got the supercharger for my truck the deal I made with myself was that I would give up scratch tickets and smoking. Well I don't buy scratch tickets any more but I still smoke, and cary a balance on the old credit card. If I had that five bucks a day I'd have it payed off every month.
Quiting is the right thing to do, in many ways.

If you feel the "need", they say a glass of warm water will help. I also gave a guy I knew cinnimon sticks to chew, instead of cigs when he went into the Air Force. He said he couldn't have quit without them.
Good Luck!!

I don't smoke, but my dad and my brother used to. My dad smoked for many years. And a few years ago, he did quit for about a year. The only problem was that he works at a cigar plant and then started smoking those and then it was back to the cigarettes. Then last year or early this year (I can't remember), he went to the doctor. They told him that if he did not quit smoking very soon, he would probably not live to be much older because his lungs were so bad. And you know what? THe has smoked any since the day the doctor told him that. My brother said that he quit smoking last November. He told us that he just said to himself that he did not want anymore, and he hasn't smoked since then.
So we all know you can do it, but its gonna be hard for a while. Just keep at it.

I know how hard it is to quit. I just failed in my second attempt a month or so ago. I was SO close this last attempt. I was riding a bike an hour a day and everything. It got the best of me again, however, and I'm back to two packs a day. I want to quit for good, but it is more difficult than anything I've ever tried. Non smokers cannot comprehend the power it has over you. Unless they are former smokers that is. Soon I will try again. I hope to finally beat it for good this time.,,,,98
Well, it's been 24 hours, and I have the hardest day under my belt, the first!
For you non smokers, the first day is the hardest (for me anyway)
Surprisingly, yesterday wasn't too bad, the only time I had a real strong desire to "light up" was right after eating dinner, while sipping on my coffee.
I got myself some hard candy, and that did the trick.
Believe it or not, all your guys encouragement, and stories of success is really helping to motivate me, thanks for that.

Good luck, Habibi.
I carried a pack around with me for a couple weeks when I quit smoking. I knew I could have one if I really needed it, and it allowed me to not obsess about them because I didn't have them. The hardest part is to re-learn how to drive, read a book, watch TV, work on the computer etc.etc. without smoking. Best bet is to create new habits, like chewing gum (cinnamon gum worked for me), or even chewing on a straw or tooth picks. As I said before, good luck and stick with it.

For all the other posters who are "planning" to quit later this year, etc..... why wait until then? Join Habibi in his efforts right now!!! you'll get the support of the whole group here!
Who else is going to join Habibi????
(why do I feel like John Belushi in Animal House..... "Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
)

It is tough to quit. I stopped Nov. 2, 1976 at 6:00am. Was very hard but worth all the trouble.
I started when I was getting ready to board a plane for Vietnam in February 1970. Nerves were shot--had to do something. Wish I would have taken up needlepoint.
Hang in there!!
