terror alert: high why?
Not to discount your point Thad, but, ok, I'm going to discount it.
Anyone who wants to cross the Canada / US border from either direction, can do it pretty easy. (if they want in bad enough)
The great lakes is an easy target for anyone wanting to cross.
Neither of our governments can afford the massive amounts of money it would take to adequately patrol those areas.
I guess what I'm saying is that I could enter the USA anytime I want to without being detected with a boat. (not that I would)
I go over frequently via boat, but the reporting system is all voluntary.
You dock your boat, go to the end of the dock, and voluntarily say "Hey, I'm here"
If I can do it, then the bad guys can too.

You know, there's been a lot of dialog here regarding the dropping of bombs on various countries throughout the course of time. Although I've enjoyed the posts to this point, I thought I'd weigh in here on a slightly different angle. I've heard the use of the term 'surgical strikes' frequently during the Gulf War and most recently in Afghanistan. We are almost at the point were 'no one' but the bad guys get it. Is this really what we want to do when we make war with our enemies? Personally, I feel the main goal of war making should be to make it so bloody, and so costly, that it forever becomes a thing for 'all' to avoid. Again, I personally believe we've made the act of war so sanitary and benevolent, that it has become a 'socially acceptable' part of everyday life. The goal of war making in my mind should be to end hostilities with our enemies as decisively and quickly as possible while suffering the absolute lowest number of US casualities possible. In my mind that means keeping US soldiers off hostile soil.
If there's one thing I have personally learned from history, its that no one really wins a war the way war has been waged in the past. In the history books the US has 'won' a number of wars, but look at the costs in US lives and resources. We have the weapons at our desposal today to end hostilities with our enemies virtually overnight. All the US needs to do is find the politically correct reason to use them.

To put the blame on Canada for 9/11 is wrong. I won't even go into the reasons for this, but that is pretty much the most ignorant statement ever made on F150online.
As for everyone else's comments, I am glad we are able to keep this civil. It is a good example which must be taken by all in a world where conflict and aggression is the norm.

well to put in perspective, my g/f Nextelle me to tell me her train was stuck on the tracks about two miles away from center city because there was a BOMB scare at Market East station, which is a major hub for transportation in Philadelphia!
now i am sure it was some idiot who really needs to get a job, but with the terror alert going on, it really makes you think!

We ALL know Canada was not responsible for 9/11. I was merely pointing out how a liberal immigration policy can assist terrorists with their missions here in America. Especially if they immigrate thru Canada, as Habibi pointed out , the border between Canada and the US is very porous.
Let me ask why they flew into Canada first? One reason is that there is a high risk they would be captured if they flew directly to America.
I don't have anything personal against Canada. It just seems people there tend to bash our leaders and policies that the Americans have voted on to put into office. Which causes reprisals from the people of the US with brutal honesty and opinions.
I may be ignorant in your opinion but I have and my daughter is serving our country to help keep it (and our allies) safe and free from enemies and terrorists. So people may express their opinions without fear. So Toronto150 , what have you sacrificed to further this cause?
While we all sit here and debate War and its impact, myself included, I want to urge everyone to watch a program on the History channel called "The Color of War" It is all color footage from WWII and the best thing about it is that it is graphically uncensored. I watched it lat night and the title was "The Color of War: Victory"
The underlying context of the show was the effect of dropping the A-Bomb. It showed the Island hopping and the unbelievable toll in human loss it took so that the US and its Allies to be poised to invade the Japanes home land. Millions, not thousands of men were poised at the gates of hell. Every single one of them was ready, willing and able to jump off a landing craft into the teeth of the Japanes army. Fortunatley for them we had a President who was wise enough to use what was available to him and saved HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of not only US and British troops but also those of the 1.1 Million Russian troops poised to invade.
I guess what Im saying is that the A Bomb agrument is baseless and anyone who brings it up is in the Miniority over shadowed by the gratitude of Millions of Fighting men, the ones whose opinion of the matter really counts, not arm chair historians.
And as for the terrorists, they will go the way of the Terrorists that came before them, the might, fortitude and strength of the Americans will come down upon them the likes of which they could never dream about. I do not enjoy War, I dont want Americans or their Allies to perish, but ometimes (In my opinion) the only way to achieve peace and maintain it is through strong force.
So God Bless America and its Allies and God Bless those who support them with all their heart.
All others others I feel sorry for, they must be miserable people.

Hey 01,
defacto is from Ontario,Canada . It has a great French influence up there. He is throwing stones because he is mad that Canada may decide to help us out and possibly double their war casualties to 8 people since after WWII.
He knows not of the sacrifices the US has made to keep his Canadian a$$ safe. I see and hear of alot of naturalized immigrants from other countries joining our Armed Forces. Never have I ever heard of one Canadian doing that. Instead all it seems we get from them is actors and TV newscasters .

Gotta love Canada. Even though they stop you for 3 hours to X-ray every bullet for the 45-70's and cant close the emmerson knife, and search the motor home, the country is an awesome place to visit. The Rocky Mountains are awesome, the Yukon area is great, cant wait to visit nunuvit (sp?)
Back to war, we should end all support in the US for people who need it, end all support for other countryies unless they offer equal amount of support to us. If some country cant afford food for thier people, let them die off. After many years the country will emerge strongly and continue to create oppurtunity for thier people. That way we dont waste our money, and can create more oppurtunities for our people and wont have to tax, tax, and tax some more.
we best keep an eye on this fellow,
he's on the verge of suing the smoking industry.
after wasting your time with that post, one can realize its all fun and games with this dialog. Dont fret the small things till they are really happening or you can make a difference.

Tribrander,
You forgot to include the 3 rusty old helicopters also in our arsenal, remember the one we got from the Russians in 1968, in exchange for a freighter full of wheat?
I pity the fool who messes with Canada
(said with my best "Mr. T voice)
When we run out of ammo, be prepared for an onslaught of empty beer cans being thrown at you followed by lots of cursing.
PhillipSVT,
If you ever decide to visit Nunavut, let me know, I lived there for 13 months ( I can point you in the right direction)
