This is not a joke. It's a true story. One time I was driving through town in Middlesboro, KY. And there were about 4 or 5 cops with their hands on their guns, surrouning a little old lady with a purse! That was the most hilarious thing I've ever seen! LMAO!!! I think she got arrested for jaywalking or something. It's worse than Mayberry over here. Btw, I've been pulled over by the cops for nothing too. One night I was riding around looking for my sister at one of her friends houses. And I was cruising around the block pretty slow. Then out of nowhere two policecars came up behind me with their cherries on. I ask them what the problem is. And they say that the nieghbors have been reporting stolen property and that I am a suspect. Well, I say "All I'm doing is trying to find my sister sir." Then they run my tags to check up on me. While one officer was running my tags, the other officer was asking me about my truck and where I got my tail lights and stuff. The other officer came back and said I'm clean so I can go. All of this took what seemed like 30 minutes and everyone in the neighborhood was watching. Boy was I embarrassed. But the law is the law I guess.

I have read plenty of posts on this board about people who are cops and actually give us information on what not to do. So I am just trying to say, dont stereotype all of them, because there are plenty of good cops out there.

And-- would you ever do their job? That is the one thing that keeps me from saying anything about them, I dont know if i could risk my life for the pay they get,so I respect them.
Thank you, we aren't all peckers. But the ones that are, make our job that much harder than it already is.

Read this whole thread and just had to offer this. Got pulled over two nights ago driving my built '95 Mustang by the local donut shop supporter. I was doing everything right and really was surprised. First words out of the officer's mouth were "What's under the hood, son?" After reminding him that my father lived in another state, I responded, "Why it's a V8 sir." Come to find out, he had stopped me because he'd seen my car a couple of times and it was "killing him" not to know just how 'built' it was. I offered to race him for pinks (his cruiser against my 'Stang) but he declined. After spending 20 minutes showing him my car in the Wallyworld parking lot we shook hands and and departed, but I feel if he stops me in the future for 'exceeding' the limit a little, I should have a shot at a warning.

Vinny, I think you got a bad one, but I wanted to show that there really are a couple good ones out there.

Cool

I've only been stopped a handful of times in my 35 years, and only two of those times were the guys a-holes about it.

The first one was when I was about 23, me and my g/f at the time went to a dance for a local band. Anyways, we left there and we got out on the highway all of thirty seconds and lights go on. We were both exhausted, our hair soaked, etc. The guys come up on both sides of the car and yank us out, and start in on the sobriety tests, grilling me about the headlight that didn't work. (It would come on if you hit the top of the fender lightly, electrical problem) Then they find the six pack of beer, OMG, you'd think they were on a drug raid or something. Two cans were missing, and not a single open container in the car, I might add. So we ended up pouring the beer out in front of them to make them happy. About that time the senior officer of the two decided it wasn't worth the hassle, and let us go. A week or two later we met up in a sporting goods store in the small town where I lived, and he was laughing up a storm, saying the younger guy wanted to arrest me and take me in, and he had talked him down. Nothing I hate worse than a rookie cop, lol!

The next time was in the middle of Kansas, nothing but grass and rolling hills as far as the eye could see. I was passing someone who was poking along, and I was doing the speed limit according to my speedo. Look up in the mirror halfway through the pass, and saw this lazer red crown vic coming, and faster than hell. I hit the gas to move out of the way, and the lights come on. He had me sitting there for 25 minutes running my license, telling me to my face I was hauling drugs, and he would be happy to bring his dog out of the car to make sure. Blah blah blah..... He asked me at least 10 times in a row if I had personal use drugs in the van, to the point where I finally just looked at him and said no a little louder each time. I looked him dead in the eye the whole time, and didn't flinch once. He was a big ole Bubba complete with dark shades and a crew cut so severe you could see him think. He finally gave up and wrote me a warning, sigh.
One word of advice for driving the interstate in Kansas......Don't wear khaki shorts, Jesus sandles, and a tie dye T-shirt you bought in Portland, OR,, LMAO!,,,,,98

every cop story is different,

While at the local state of the art MRI place waiting, we got talking to this guy, he was very nice and all. Come to find out, he was a highway patroll and his wife was in the MRI getting tests done. So far, he was the oldest person in his family and now his wife had some type of condition. So until you know everything, dont make assumptions out of one person. You do know what happens when you assume,,,,you make an *** out of you and me.

Owning a business, and when the alarm goes off at 2am, even though you have an AR-15 and 10 guage, its alway's nice to have the cops show up and get your back, just incase something unforseen happens.

Please tell me, that a person with the direction of a spastic kangaroo did not or could harrass anyone. Its just like bongo-***** and placecard-****** trying to preach to the converted, it doesn't take a cleaver person to piont out that its uncalled for. If they start messing with you, tell them if they want to play this game you will play with everything it takes and you will NEVER back down, so its up to them, they make the choice, you'll win no matter what.

slap shot, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one out here. I feel kind of out numbered.

Guys, don't judge us all by the actions of few. All cops aren't bad. And guess who will be there to save your sorry tail when you are in trouble.

I'm from Plainfield, IN - enough said. When I first went to collage, I told someone that I was from P-field, their immediate respone - "I know that place, I got my first ticket there".
Me - yep, that's the place.

One time I was driving home at about 1 AM on X-mas morning on after taking my GF home (I was proably around 20). I was actually driving the speed limt (unusual for me) on a very rural, and out of nowhere headlights come flying up behind me - knowing this road very well, and knowing no one drives this road, I sped up, and sped up, and sped up, until I get to 95, then the lights come. Cop wants to know if I've been drinking and why I was running from him. My response, "No I haven't been drinking, and I stopped as soon as your lights came on." He informs he started following my on US 40 becasue I switched lanes w/out using my turn signal, and he could also cite me for driving left of center (center is not painted, mind you). I'm was pissed and get a lawyer, and I get the ticket thrown w/ the agreement I won't get any tickets for 4 months. After court the cop comes up to me and starts talking to my lawyer and myself and says he started following me becasue I was swerving between lanes. I tell him that he told me that night he started floowing me because I switched lanes w/out using a turn signal. I bite tongue at that point and leave. Then my lawyer tells me he had to get pissy w/ the cop while the where trying to make a deal for me. The cop said he thought I was drunk, my lawyer fired back "he coudn't of been too drunk he nearly out ran you. (car was 4 cyl Probe)

Another time, same road, posted limit is 50. I'm behind an unmarked car doing 40, so I pass him he then starts tailgating me and turns his lights. Tells me I was doing 60, and he paced me with his"certified speedometer". I knew it was unmarked car, so I kept it to 50. He informs me that rural roads have 40 mph speedlimit, and I inform him it's posted 50. he then lets me go w/ a verbal warning. As soon was he walked away I came to the realization this was illegal stop - unmarked car and uniformed officer can not stop someone in Indiana. The second he stepped out of the car and didn't have uniform on, I had every right to drive away. (he had a blonde chicky w/ him, so he to show off after getting passed)

Most recently - the day after Christmas 2002. I turn off of the same road the other incidents occured on to go around someone driving WAY to slow (about 15mph). I come upon 2 cops sitting in the middle of the road in corner, and a car w/ 2 HOT teenage girls that slid into a ditch. I started to drive around the A-holes in the field, but my wife insisted I not. I wait, and then get out and ask the girls if they need help. The jackass wrote her 2 $100 tickets, the first for trying to evade him (she claims not true), and the second for driving beyond conditions. She was about ready to bust out in tears, then I remind her she's in P-field whose cops are notorious for being jackasses. Both cops then left with me talking to them, and them still in the ditch!!!!! I pulled them out and went on my way, but what COULD have happened if I wasn't such a nice guy? If was either those girls parents, I would have been up that rookie cops butt (he looked like he maybe 25, complete w/ the bur haircut), the police chief's butt, the town board, and written a nasty letter about the incident to the local paper.

wow

P.S. This site is being dominated by young punks who have too much free time on their hands. Obviously nothing else in their life but a "chip" (and I'm not talking a JL or JJSSVT chip) on their shoulder, overloaded credit cards, a bad attitude, and an expensive truck to show for themselves. And we wonder why our country is in such a sad state of affairs? This post should not be in a Lightning forum PERIOD!

Wow talk about ****ing ignorant!!!! The problem is old ignorant bastards like yourself stereo typing the younger generation and painting everyone with the same brush.

You older guys are the guys running this country right into the ground so why don't you spend more time, and less money, making better decisions then trying to blame the youth of the country for the countries condition. Afterall, you have to be 18 to vote and this country has be screwed up and getting worse for alot longer than a year or two. So lets face the facts here buddy.

Why don't you do a little research on overloaded credit cards. I'll give you a hint, start right here on this board and you will find it's not all the young guys with big credit card bills.....it everyone....it's become the american way and you the older folks who are running the country let it happen. I seriously doubt you have 22 year olds making the decision to extend credit to 18 year old kids. It starts with the heads of these financial institutions and works down.

So all the older guys can chime in and try to comment but there is no way to turn this one around. You have to be 18 to vote.....so please break down the age bracket you consider "young punks". I'll take 18,....... tack on ten years back. That puts us in 1993. So you mean to tell me the "sad state of affairs" you are speaking of has only occurred since then???? Wrong aren't you my friend.

Open mouth and insert foot!!!!

This post will be closing in 10, 9, 8...

tallimecca, I couldn't agree more. every older cop (and a lot of older civilians for that matter) stereotype me when they see me driving around, and you just know what goes through their minds..."he must be speeding", "hes probably on drugs", "his parents must have bought him that truck", blah blah blah. if the older guys would show a little more faith in us, I believe less people my age would be balking authority and turning to drugs and alcohol for entertainment, especially in small towns where there's nothing better to do. I know working on cars has kept me out of REAL trouble, yet I get targeted for traffic citations because the cops aren't concerned with the kids smoking and drinking

Always try to make the best of a bad situation, when you have been stopped by an officer for any reasson, attitude is everything. Sure there are bad officers but flip the coin, there are bad people too. I am not saying that the original stop in question in this thread was valid or not, I was not there and do not know both sides of the story. You cannot judge the entire law enforcement of our country by an incident that was bad. I know we all have horror stories, even a few officers have those. Best you can hope for is a good outcome and no night in jail, short of that you should be glad you were able to drive away.
There will always be two sides to any story, bad officers in every department and those that feel violated at one time or another, life is not always as fair as we would like it to be and in the end you reap what you sew. Just be the bigger man and know that in the end, a bad officer will not last on any department forever, he eventually will by sittin in a parking lot at 3 am with SECURITY on his 3 dollar hat!
