Fuel Economy for V10 250/Excursion?

I am looking to buy a used excursion or f250 to drive around and to haul my race car on occasion. what type of fuel economy should i expect? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got an '06 V10 F-250. It gets between 10 & 11 mpg running around town. What I call country driving. Towing a 6000 lb trailer I get about 8 or 9 mpg. I have an Escape I use when there's no towing needed so I haven't driven it on long trips (not towing) to get a true highway figure. I'd guess it's about 13 or 14 though. Just as an FYI, I'm not real hard on the throttle. If you mash it every time you take off I'd imagine those figures would suffer accordingly.
Oh ya, I love the truck!! Great power, no diesel smell and it uses regular fuel.

Yep same here, 9 towing, 12 on a good day not towing.
Fuel economy and V10 probably should not be used in the same sentence.

One of my dads friends has a 1999 f350 crewcab with the v10 and he gets about 8-10 mpg towing a 35 foot 5th wheel and we got about 16 mpg when we took it on a 500 mile round trip to the pocono 500 last year. I think it helps that he only has a 4x2 and he has the 3:73 gears. hope this helps.

You guys are getting 9-12 with a V10? That's not bad at all. I calc'd out my 2006 F-150 SCREW, 3.73 gears ( if that matters) last week, and it's getting almost exactly 12. This was for my commute (which is a short distance, but takes a long time and is brutal). I've been really thinking about the F250 V10, and if Im only going to be losing a mile-per-gallon or so, I think I need to pull the trigger already.

And this is reeeeallllly easy on the gas, because I was purposely testing this....

Slow traffic is slow traffic..nomatter what you drive, it won't be good. that's not really a fair analysis of the true MPG ratings of the truck.

But, for your purposes ( I guess ) a v10 would probably yield similar results. But then, I guess I would wonder why you would need any more of a truck to sit in traffic?

No kidding, right! Which is why this decision has taken me so long (still haven't made one!), but, I'm going to be towing a 7,500 lbs (empty) toy hauler so I need the beast.
