I had a demoralizing experience today, actually 3 of them.

I was driving down the highway, which has many stop lights, not like an interstate, and got stopped at a red with a blue 2001+ silverado 5.3 Liter Votec on my right side. He was slightly behind me because we had to brake hard for the light. I see him creeping up and I knew he was gonna gun it. On green, i floored it, and before I got to 20 mph, he was pulling on me fast.. at 50, i cut off and he was about 3-4 lengths ahead of me.. Wasted..

Next, i got to a light literally 5 mins later next to a blue Chevy Trailblazer..(didn't know what was with me and blue chevy's kicking my ***... but all well).. anyways, on Green we both gun it, except I did stay ahead of him until 55,, at about 55-60 he started pulling SLOWLY, but I cut off at 65,,, the limit on the part of the H/W only being 50.

Last week, A grand Am gt whooped my a$$ as well, but that is no story to talk about and old news as of now.

On the way home, i pulled up to a BMW, 4 door,, NOt sure what kind of bmw though.. must have been a 4 valve,, or little V6 and No turbo. N E How, It was a lady 30 years + driving,,, but I thought, "Well Sh*t, why not.".. So i gunned it HARd, brake stand and all at the light.. and belive it or not,, I beat her.. I KNOW she WAS racing because my rear window was open and I could hear the engine really working.. It was up hill so that is why i think i was able to get her...

WEll,, after I pulled ahead of her, an eclipse immediately starts riding my ***.. So i switch lanes and guess what.... RED LIght... It was the new body style Eclipse and said V6 Magnum,, but it was convertable and NO turbo.. Well.. at Green I gun it hard, again brake standing, and I hear him .. the 35 year old + driver, PEEL OUT!.. LOL, he pulled up quick on me, and passed me at about 40, where I lose alot of power in the 1 - 2 upshift.. but i kept with him and he didn't beat me as bad as the silverado.. A car merged infront of me and I had to slow down.

Funny thing is,,, 2 blue chevy's, with atleast 35 year old men.
1 bmw, 30+ year old woman.
1 eclipse atleast35-40 year old man!!!
what's with the OLD people?? NO OFFENSE>>> i dont' really think 35 is THAT OLD :-)

Question!! My Nav is only 230 hp, not including Exhaust and intake.. maybe 235-240 with those...... Is the new 300 HP navi,, as in 2001-2003 the same weight as mine? IF so,,, the New Navigators must WALK OVER EVERYONE???? JUST STALK? guaranteed I could have taken everyone of those cars EASILY with 70+ HP... .... why'd they drop such a little 230 HP engine into the massive 5500LB suv when little Maximas are running around with 220 HP???

We're meant for cruising in style. These big beasts aren't designed for racing. Enjoy the luxury of a fine automobile and leave the racing to the little Hondas etc.

 

If you want to race and have some fun.

Put your stock wheels back on and Supercharger.

But like Navi Man said we are made for cruising, nothing wrong with a little speed and power.

 

Eclipse V-6 (Magnum?) 210 HP

Silverado- If it was a V-8, it had a minimum of 270 HP, there 4.7L puts out more HP stock than the Ford 5.4L- What's worse, their 5.3 only put out 275. I think it's up to 285 for 2002. But, I've never met anyone with Chevy's 4.7L v-8. I don't even think it's been offered since 2000.

BMW 323i (2.5L I-6 170 HP)
328i (2.8L I-6 190 HP)
330i (3.0L I-6 215 HP)
M-3 (Don't race one.....) 333 HP Not a typo either...

Even though you have 15 - 60 (7 - 27%) more HP than many of the Beemer's you also have twice the weight, so just by power to weight ratio, you'd lose against them- if they really want to race.

Trailblazer- I-6, 270 HP.....
2000 Expedition 4.6L 232 HP

So, against any of the vehicles above, you were almost certain to put a mark in the "L" column, except maybe the 4.6L Expy. Not knocking the Ford engines, but we just aren't equipped to out pace anything red-light to red-light in Expeditions & Navigators. Not even the chest thumping 300 HP Nav could out pace any of the vehicles you raced. Not unless it was in the 4000 lb trailering contest...

I look forward to the day that these trucks get engines that will make them feel as powerful as they look. I'm tired of getting waxed by Tahoe's, Suburbans and Minivans.... But, I still love my Expy!

I know for a fact the Silverado was a 5.3 because it was extended cab, shortbed, and my brother in law has one that looked identical to it. BUT, if I stayed with the trailblazer so well.... Wouldn't a 300 HP Navi be able to womp it or not? And how about that Eclipse.. for being a sports car, that thing was SLOW!! And it sounded/seemed like that beemer was racing, but she might now have been. IT WASN'T a FASt looking bmw and WASN'T the M3.. I atleast know not to mess with one of those!!! .. Just saw a commercial for the new BMW I something class doing a 5.9 0-60.. not bad for a huge 4 door, about the size of the Lexus Ls400!!

Oh, and btw, you're right, its nice to cruize in style with the X's and Nav's, but why not just put a GD Lightning engine into it, OR atleast a supercharger option????? It would help alot and save us Ford owners the Embarrassment of getting walked on by..... MINIVANS!!!!.. i lost to one last year..

 

Yep, I got my **** handed to me by a Honda Odessey a few weeks ago at the light. My corner was about 4 blocks away, I was in the middle lane, the Odessey was in the left lane, I needed to make a left turn ahead, so I figured I'd kinda hit it, and jump out ahead. Similiar power, 240 HP V8 vs 240 HP V6, but I had the torque advantage/acceleration advantage, right? Wrong.

She must've know my plan, and when the light urned green, we hit it at the same time- I had her by a nose across the intersection, but the Odessey pulled on me, by the time we got to 50 she had me by half a length, my turn was coming up quick, so I eased off and slid behind her, making my left turn in shame. I could've really got on it, but then I'd have missed my turn, probably still would have lost, and may have even gotten a $200 ticket for speeding in Plano City limits... I'll see her on the Tollway one day!

Not only did Ilose to a minivan, I lost to a woman, driving a minivan. Man..... How I miss the performance of my 1997 Maxima SE 5-Speed. No minivan, and only a few Sports cars can take that bad-boy red light to red light. I lost one race in my Max, in 3 years.... The M-3' s are mighty quick cars!!!

PS_ If you hung in there w/230 HP- the 300 HP Nav may have won, in that sitchachion. (situation)

I checked out your rides.. let me get this straight... not 1, not 2, but 3 trucks ALL with 20's?? heh, I could hardly afford one set of 20's!!!! Anyways, ALL of those trucks, and the X are looking real slick! There is a marron escalade that has the Vanguards (sp?) 20".. They look sweet and I'm luvin' the nice LIP they have on em.

btw, those minivans suck ehh? I can't believe how damn fast they were.. I was at a light, about a year ago like I said, and I see this young kid, i'd say 16 maybe, sittin in this minivan.. I FELT bad trying to race so I figured I'd only race if HE did.. Well, I shouldn't have felt bad for him, because after he womped my A$$ he was probably feeling bad for me.. HA!.. It was about 1/2 truck length but I was, as Neal would say, "Pounding my stearing wheel." I've never gotten over that race and remain 'deathly' afraid of minivans to this day..

Very shiny wheel, that chrome lip sets it off. I like 5-Spokes, but that's a 6 Spoke wheel that I quickly fell in love with. (Aside from the 6-Spoke Atlas' I had, when I was rolling 16's....)

The green S'Crew is my cousin's wife's truck. KMC-Stealth's. I didn't pay for those- But man, if I were only hooking up one truck instead of two, it would be truly off the hook by now....

I like having both though.... I'll get 'em where I wanna be, if I don't break down and trade the Expy for an 03 Navi Premium, Escalade or a Infiniti Q45. Caddy has lease specials on Escalades for $549.00/month out here. (Lease) That's less than I pay per month now to own. I've NEVER had a car 3 years, My Expy is 24 months old, with me... I still love it, but I'll have to make a decision- Pay for the extended warranty- or add that to a down pmt on a new ride..... (Decisions decisions....)

 

Well good luck with whatever decision.. but how dare you say Escalade??? :-P J/K.. I'd go with the Navi, but hey, i'm not the one gonna be forkin out the $$ for it..

BTW!!!!!!!! .... I SAW A 2003 NAV today.. only the 3rd one I've seen.. i think it was the same one I saw a while ago.. MAN>.. they look damn sweet.. phew........!! wow!

 

They are becoming plentiful out here now, as are the 2003 Expy's, after a slow start.

I like the hunkered down, aggressive look it has now; plus I like the fact that the 4x4 doesn't sit sky high anymore. Not to mention the console mounted shifter, the big power fold-in mirrors.

David McDavid Lincoln Mercury/ Plano, TX hooks them up for you, several can be had with 20 & 22" wheels right off the showroom floor, for about $3,000.... Not bad, since you'll pay about that for 20's and more for nice 22's... (Unless you have "The hookup".)

No, the Escalade is appealing from the perspective of how many you see fixed up out here, not to mention the $ factor. They are $51,000, but their residual value makes them a solid choice for Leasing. I haven't priced out a Navi yet, but they sticker for 48,000 to start (Navi uxury) But, I want to step to the mid-pack Premium version. The Navi Ultimate's are about 54-56,000 to start.
