2004 Expedition (As hoped)
2004 Expedition (As hoped)
Well, with the demise of the Excursionon the Horizon, Ford announced in the November issue of Motor Trend, something it should have done from the "Giddiup".
Ford will offer a longer version of the Expedition on a longer wheelbase, akin to the Suburban/Tahoe- Yukon/Yukon XL deals...
Ford should have done this instead of the Excursion- which was nice- but never as nice of a package as the Expedition is.
Same engines are expected 4.6L & 5.4- No mention of a power boost....
'bout freakin time Ford!

Throw in a few more engine choices and youd have a sure winner, say 4.5L BPSD V-6 (Baby PowerStrokeDiesel), the new 305? HP 3 valve per cylinder 5.4L, and maybe the soon to be announced? new 350? HP 3 valve per cylinder 6.8L V10

They have stated that Ford hasn't released the name yet (So it may not be called the Expedition), but it will be a stretched version of the current Expy.
My guess, it'll be called the Expedition L
It'll more than likely be slapped on the 139" wheelbase instead of the current 119" wheelbase.
As smooth as the SuperCrew rides, that long wheelbase Expy should be extra smooth- especially with the IRS....
I can't wait to see it- It'll still be bigger than the Suburban.

Who wants to be second with a guess at MSRP....I'll venture $49K and up. Consumer Reports this month did a SUV showdown including the 03 Expy. Lotsa kudos except for the powerplant. Can you say DUH!!!!!!!!!!!

Rumors-
I'm hearing from my buddy that works at a Ford Dealership, that pricing will be comparable to the difference between the Tahoe/Suburban. About $3,000.00
Heck, I have seen Suburbans cheaper than Tahoe's at times, depending on the market... I've seen Suburbans range from $27,000 - $44,000. I've rarely seen a Tahoe under $31,000.00
Long time coming Ford! Do us right on the price.

Hope the engineers in Dearborn are reading all the threads on the 03's growing pains. Hope they offer the SVT motor as an option. Also a locking mechanisim inside the cargo area like my wife's 99 Explorer has. How about remoting the oil filter and an electric fan setup? What else can someone add?
Suggestions for 04 Extendo Expy?
How about a floor mounted shifter for people that don't want the bench front seat. Let's face it, colum mounted shifter are very 70's..... Plus, it looks so good on the Navigator...
I'd like dual power 8-way front seats.
Bring the cassette player back.
4-wheel independent suspension in 4x2.
No one's likely to go off road with a 4x2. Espeically a new, 35-40K 4x2. (Or 4x4 for that matter.
5.4L becomes standard offering in the extended version.
V-10 Optional.
Onstar (Hey, if Infiniti & Acura can use GM's stuff, why not Ford)
300W 7-Speaker Bose stereo system, w/Subwoofer.
(All Expeditions)
