Same old drone

I've had multiple exhaust configurations on my 2008 5.4L Scab, before the latest it was stock manifolds to Maggie hi flows, 2 1/2" x pipe, dual magnapacks dumped over the axle. Drone at the 1800-2000 range was pretty bad.

I now have Stainless Works long tubes, hi flows, Maggie y pipe, 3" mid pipe to a Borla 3" IN/Dual 2 1/2" OUT straight out the back. The sound is second to none, especially getting on it. But...I still have the drone. I'm wondering if adding a bullet short 3" resonator right after my y pipe up front would help any, but I also wouldn't want to change the tone or aggressiveness when I'm laying into it. Thoughts?

In my case, using 3" frt pipe and twin 2.5" tail pipes and a 3.0 SI/ 2.5 DO muffler that was really short ..... the added 28" long Bullet ahead did more to tone the noise level down but with this system, did nothing for drone.

It was the weights I added finally after trying other ideas like restrictors, etc ... that killed the drone at that same RPM.

Somewhere I read about the 5.4 using 3" pipe at that rpm created a vibration in the pipe's walls that caused the drone. Anyway, the weights I used are off a Crown Vic, welded up on a clamp on bracket but they'ld be easy to make. Guessing about 4-5 pounds each, then the weight of the bracket I made. They look like steel tubes with sand in side them and caps spot welded in place.

Maybe there's something here for you?

I'm inclined to believe what I read about rpm, pipe size, displacement, as back when I bought the truck in 2009, it had a 2.5" frt pipe and FM 40 muffler and two 2.25" tails. It was loud with some drone, mostly just loud. A single 2.5" ID glasspack was all was needed on it then. When the FM developed a hole, I ordered this system and figured I'd need a GP to quiet it down .... but that drone stayed ..... until I added the weights.

Also google "killing drone with weight" and terms like that.

Good Luck!
