RTV or not to RTV

Hello all, and happy new years!

Putting a clamp-on exhaust on my truck (bought as a kit; muffler-back SIDO flowmaster Super 44 with 2.5 in. pipes) and was told two differing opinions on how to put it all together. Opinion one is to put a light coat of the high-temp copper RTV in the joints before clamping it together to prevent possible leaks. The second is that it is not needed and would in fact cause the clamp system to not work as effectively.

Does anyone have experience with this; has anyone done it with/without the sealant, and if so what does the group think would be the better choice?

I have personally never used sealant of any kind and never had a problem. I suspect that the vast majority of exhaust systems including factory installed do not have sealant on them. In my opinion I would just install without the sealant.
Keep it simple usually works the best....
