2004 F150 FX4 rough idle

Ok guys im stuck..

First of all I drive a 2004 F150 FX4 with 190 xxx km. Most of which are highway km from traveling around canada for work. This past year it has been from ontario to BC. Plus numerous trips to and from regina to winnipeg amd fort mcmurray. In october I had the plugs, tranny seal amd pump fixed. Plus all regular maintenance has been kept up on this truck.

So I had to head out of the city today. On my way out while I was slowing down for a stop light I noticed an odd vibration. It stop when I reached the light so I thought maybe I had some snow built up some where. It ran perfect on the highway with no issues. When I reached my turn for the next highway (approx 25 to 30 min away from first vibration) I felt the same vibration again. Thinking it was snow I continued. Once I made the turn I noticed that my acceleration sucked. Not long after my engine light started to blink and the vibration started again. Instantly I pulled over. The light went out amd the vibration stopped. I called the people I was going to see and turned around to the town I just passed(less than 5 min) in town I noticed I had barely any acceleration and that the truck was vibrating in an odd way. Omce pulled over I popped the hood and noticed that the truck sounded like it was miss firing. Did my once look over and found that the fuel pressure guage/sensor had a hose that was not on properly so I pushed it the rest of the way. The truck seemed to level out amd I took it for another cruise. But it still idled rough. I reopened the hood and noticed that a plastic hose on the passenger rear side of the engine was leaking something.. what ever it was leaking was on the rear cylinder.. around the spark plug. . Guys I'm a lil worried.. any opinions

Oh the only code that came up was a Random Misfire Detected

Xoxo jess

You likely have a cam phaser issue, do a internet search and you should become sufficiently educated on the issue.

Can you explain to me the "symptoms" of this? I found out about the part.. but unsure due to the ability to find no information on the issues

I have a 2005 fx4, mine just started doing the same problem, and what the guy above is saying that if your engine had been ticking for quite some time, well that ticking is your engine going. It could tick forever but if yuor starting to have problems now, then your having the same problem i am. Iv asked numerous top quality mechanics including a head guy at our local Ford dealership where they repair all of our deisels and they do great work and do stufff right so i trust his word, What he told me is that if your engine has been ticking for quite some time its the cam phaser issue. Which to repair is half the cost of a new motor. What he said is that if you take the cam valve cover off and feel under neath of it and its scored and rough. No point to put money into it. The engine is shot. And the engine is starting to get out of time. Fixing the cam will only prolong the issue and it will come back in good time. Mine doesnt throw codes whens it doing it either.

I have a 2007 FX4 5.4 with 115k on it. About 3 weeks ago mine started ticking. Had no idea what it was. Then it started running rough.. idling very rough, acted like it was missing. Then I got a code. P0308.. misfire #8 ... got another code.. P0304.. both the most PITA rearward things to get to. Both of the plugs were loose so I replaced them... tick gone.. misfire gone. Truck runs great now.

I'm having rough idle that showed up out of nowhere on Friday. I made another post about it here:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...ot-firing.html

I had multiple misfire codes come up but the engine has been pretty quiet. No loud ticking noises. I know a guy with a 03 XLT Screw that I heard tick pretty noticeably in the summer. I didn't know anything about 5.4s then but I'd say now that's a cam phaser......or a very serious exhaust leak!

The thing is with my truck well we been having one of the coldest winters in Pennsylvania in a while so I expected some problems. With my problem , if I were to start it and only let it warm for a minute and drive it, it would run like crap, power loss and backfiring like the oil wasn't being pushed up quick enough . So I would park and let it try to warmup .. With ignition problems the problem would get worse as you drive not better.. Now when I would let it warm up for 15 minutes it ran decent but when I would come to stop the whole truck would start shaking .. So must guys told me prob the cam phaser, and also told me don't fix it ... Now a 5.0 screw owner!

Test your coil packs, mine had the same issue. Bought a new set on ebay and now my truck runs great. When it happened it didn't through a code, freaked me out. So i took it to Omeara Ford. #2 #4 went out.

Coil packs, check them out, be sure that dielectric grease is applied. What plugs went in it when changed?
