302 Exhaust: Straight pipe or Glasspacks

I have a 1995 F150 with a 302, and i was wondering if it would be to loud if i ran straight pipes. Right now it has a glasspack with the precat and the normal cat on. I can afford to get the cat cut off. The glasspack sounds good, but its not as loud as i want it. Would straight piping it be to loud, even with the cats?

Cut your rear cats off and install a bullet muffler!

On mine i don't have any cats and i have a flow master 40 series on mine and its not to loud. They are a 2 into 1 y pipe and the are done up cowboy style if you know what that means.I can put up a video of it tomorrow. I also had a 89 5.0 and it was straight pipe it got annoying after awhile plus when you get off the throttle it does nothing but pop. Also i am down for a free flowing exhaust but you do want to keep some back pressure in there. But these are my opinions.

I have a 1994 with a 5.0, it has straight pipes, no cats or anything . It sounds good at idle, But sometimes it has that poppy sound too it, like a glasspack . I am gonna tell you now . If your not worried about it being too loud then straight pipes sound good, but after a while they get annoying cause thats all you hear when your riding down the road. Hope you got some good door speakers if you plan on listening too the radio lol. Ill get a video and get it posted up .

Instead of horrid sounding straights, go with Bullets. Deep toned sound, high rpm aggression.

I do know i need some back pressure. I was hoping the cats would do that? My cats are the original cats the truck came with, so im sure they have a but of build up in them. When i first took my stock exhaust off, i went for a rid in it, and it actually sounded decent. I until i have money i am going to just take the gasspack off and dub it right out infront the the rear tire, just until i have enough money to get the cat cut off and have a pipe welded there.

jeffery13247 you can always get a piece of pipe or some thing to gut the cats out with. That way it still has a stock look to it.That can help you save some money. All that is going to happen is its going to blow the honey comb out of the pipe. But if you do gut the cats put on that glass pack to give you some back pressure.

I forgot about gutting the cats. Honestly, i would love to just get rid of the cats, but i have no money and very limited tools. I dont have any emissions crap or inspection where i live either. How would i go about gutting the cats? Crowbar and a big hammer? Also, another thing i want to know; Does the 2nd cat bolt up? Or is it welded up?
