I've been following Mossy's original post because I was thinking of doing the same set up with 5x14 round bodies. The pictures are going to be a big help in explaining what I'm looking for. So far the three shops I called were 'all in' and prices were no where near what the OP was quoted.

I'd hunt around, Mossy. Sounds like it's time to find a new shop!

The only reason I could think of that they say it can be done is the "cross over" part. An x pipe can be done, but I'm pretty sure a cross over is typically when both pipes cross over from one frame rail to the other. You want him to run pipes down the same passenger side frame rail like in the pictures above. So, if memory serves.me, that's not crossover. That's just putting in an x pipe.

I'm in Montgomery or Auburn Alabama. Does anybody happen to know of a good exhaust shop around me?

Hey Mossy- I assume your purchasing the parts yourself and just having them install them. Perhaps the shop may just be trying to make a buck because you didn't get your parts through them? There seems to be a substantial variance in cost from what the shops have quoted me on specific parts and what I can get through performance peddler. Either way I wish you luck! I'm still not decided on a setup so you're that much closer than I am.

An x pipe is a crossover. From one exhaust bank to the other.

Let's say I bought the cats, mufflers, tips, and x-pipe myself off performance peddler. What would be a reasonable price to put it all on and run the pipes? The 2 shops I talked to said it would be a bad idea to replace the stock cats with only 60,000 miles on them because the magnaflow cats aren't as good and they don't have much catalyst in them. Is there any truth to this or are they just BSing me because they don't want to mess with them?

yea, but what I was saying is that they probably are confused thinking he wants the exhaust to cross from one frame rail to the other... where as all he wants is an x-pipe with the pipes running down the passenger framerail.

confusing this:

with this

If you put in an "X pipe", you don't have a "true dual" system, you have a "siamesed system" ...
... if you are going to use an "X pipe", use two mufflers ...
... if you are going to use a DI/DO muffler, forget the "X pipe" ...
... you want "true duals", forget the "X pipe" altogether.

Put a reversed "Y" behind the stock "Y" and you have "X pipe". Use a 3" pipe between the two "Y"s and you have a low restriction "X pipe".

And I'ld be a little hesitant to go purposefully pi55 off my exhaust pipe bender man. One never knows the future and one might find need of him again. Much better to go and calmly explain / show what it is you want to pay him to do and if the price is too much for your hip, calmly go elsewhere and seek second or third opinions.

I'm going to do 2 SI/SO mufflers with an x-pipe. I just sold my stock rims and tires about an hour ago so I have more than enough money now to go all out
