2011 F150 5.0 Stock exhaust .
I was wondering how the stock 2011 5.0 SISO system stacks up as a performance system? Is the Y pipe restrictive, how about the stock muffler. If no other changes where made would any torque be gained by cutting in a Borla turbo XL or a 22" Magnaflow for the factory coffin? . My main use is towing 2500lbs at low RPM'S trying to get MPG although more top end would not make me sad. That said the stock system sounds pretty good when pushed a little.
P.S. What is the inlet/outlet size on the stock muffler?

Use the search button, and read this> https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...ust-guide.html

Its all relevant. Trust me. All internal combustion engines work the same. Theres a certain size and amount of flow required from each engines exhaust. Luckily for you, you found a website that is just Ford F-150's. So hit that search button, go to the 2009-2011 section and search there too. I guarantee you will pull up lots of useful information. But if you want someones opinion, your truck would sound awesome with a true dual exhaust. Most likely Magnaflow. It's more expensive, but worth it performance and sound wise. But to answer your question, the only truly restrictive force on that stock exhaust is the cats and the muffler. If you want to keep the stock exhaust, throw out the stock muffler and get a maggy or dynomax bullet welded in. Cheap and effective.

"So ...lemme get this straight.
Yer gonna take a brand-new beautiful 5.0, with a really excellent, well-designed, well-matched, free-flowing, high-quality Stainless, mandrel-bent exhasut system ....
.... and then proceed to install a POS butt-plug of a chambered, torque-reducing velocity-agnostic, poorly-constructed silly-baffle-filled Fartmaster on it?
Outstanding.

He seems to think the stock system is pretty good, that's why I asked the questions I did. I wanted to know for my application would I benefit, would I gain torque or MPG on the bottom end. Is the 2011 Y pipe a hindrance? The Borla /Magnaflow catbacks do not remove the Y......

HAHAHAHA... that was a good post from MGD, but very true. Notice he was talking about ruining it using a Flowmaster muffler..... If you put a Magnaflow or any other stright through muffler on it would help performance alot. Alot of Ford owners dont like Flowmaster, because they sound like chit on our trucks, and theyre performance robbing. Go with the Magnaflow. You'll be glad you did. And post a video when you do it.

I'm an owner of two fords, i use flowmaster on both, they sound great, and i have only gained power.

From the dyno runs I saw , flowmaster was way down on the torque numbers around 2500 RPM and Borla seemed to have most systems beat by 10 lbs torque at that rpm on a 300c.i. engine. IMO maxing torque where the system spends most of life makes far more sense trying to get max HP or noise at the high end.

only dynos i've seen was a 2 tq loss. I don't think you're going to notice that anywhere in the rpm.
