Ok so this is ImAti0n. I just remembered the password to this account. Looks like I'm gonna have to PM a mod to delete my ImAti0n account.

Random Cali fellers -

A few posts from the ReverendD

If you got popped by a cop, you'd get ticketed for an illegal modification, and you'd have to go to a smog ref, not just a normal smog shop. That's considerably more expensive, and they're gonna go over every inch of your engine and exhaust, running every number to make sure it's legal.

My personal opinion is that neither the power gain nor the sound is worth the hassle when there are so many legal ways to gain power (i.e kenne bell).

In terms of cali smog law, everything downstream of the last cat is totally open. There is a mandatory muffler law, and a 95db max, but they have *no* effect on passing california emissions. You can put on whatever catback you want.

In terms of headers, there are shorties with CARB numbers, but no long tubes.

Mid-pipe I'm not so sure about. I thought there were some with CARB numbers, BUT, they just passed the law at the beginning of the year that made it illegal to run anything but an OBD2 cat. That means high-flows will now make you fail the visual.

Of course, a lot of this is smog tech dependent. Pretty much every smog guy I've ever gone to has done everything they could to make the car pass.

Also, buying a catback is lame if you have a local muffler shop. You'll easily pay twice as much money to install it yourself.

My friend had a cop get his attention while on the freeway traffic. The LEO yelled out his name and told him to put some cats on it, my friend replied there were some, and the cop replied to put on some real ones. My friend had hollowed out cats lol. Like I said, I'm just stating my experience.

I've heard its illegal to change the location of the cats on any car in cali. so that pretty much rules out all aftermarket midpipes. you'll definitely pass the sniffer but its a hit and miss on the visual. a couple buddies got rejected when the tech saw that the cats were aftermarket.

^ No sir. OEM cats are about the only ones that will pass CA emissions.

Apparently. That doesn't make sense to me, but yea, they don't want you touching it.

It's also been said that they do everything they can to get your vehicle to pass.

If you touch it, your taking a chance.

If you plan on legally passing, leave it stock.

Sorry, but I gotta change up my exhaust. There's no way I can leave it all stock.

Will do thanks.

I'm gonna call my smog guy and ask him about hi-flows. If they pass the test I will get them cause he doesn't care about visuals on my truck.

If you wanna pass with no problems, change only parts from the muffler, to the tip(s). No cat or header work, they'll even complain about true duals if they can.
