Single 3" ..Advice...

Hi all..I'm trying to get back up to speed on the F150's..Been in a Ranger for the past few years..Now with the 05 I just picked up, I would like to do some exhaust. I think I just want a single 3" after the stock y and a 3" dynomax bullet single..
I want some good sound but not a TON of sound..Going to be hauling around a baby soon..

Does this sound like a good set up?

Well you won't have any problems with that setup. I would still recommend to cut off the OEM Y-pipe for a Magnaflow one that exits in 3".

2.5" converging and exiting to a 3". The OEM Y-pipe is very restrictive. I think one of the sides goes down to below 2".

Up to 2008 models yes. I actually think '97 - '03s had a better flowing Y pipe. Not quite sure if '09+ models are just as bad with their full 2.75" exhaust.

3" ??? Yes i know i might be asking a dumbA$$ question but i hear this and i hear that about different things and can never find an answer to my question

I appreciate your input Punisher
A 2.5" to 3" Y-pipe would still be best, but you would need another Y-pipe after the Bullet to have dual exits.

Here's a picture that I made a week ago for another member. Just pretend "Magnapack" means Bullet and that stick man isn't being a *****.

3" pipes for a SISO are just the best performing across the whole RPM range. The stock 2.5" pipes are good but offers no room for improvement.

97-03's - The turn right @ the bank 2 sensor reduces down to 2.25. Yea, that sort of ruins it. It's not all bad tho. Troyer had gains on the Dyno across the board,- just adding a 3" cat back to an otherwise factory OEM system.

So, RIGHT AFTER the Y, you go up to 3" into a straight thru muffler and mandrel bent tailpipe w/4" tip (progressive) . That was the system to benefit the 97-03 V8's. I believe they still have it here, -

They have a few more to choose from for your model here -

You can sort of see how the factory Y reduces here, on the left. That's a 3" mandrel Y on the right.
