The Roush O/R definitely is nice. Best of both worlds, real loud when you want it, quiet and calm when your cruising.

Drone

So what happened with the exhaust? Get rid of the drone yet? JoeCool, why didn't you get the TurboXL exhaust? I called Borla and they recommended the 2 1/4 sido TurboXL, so I'm wondering why I hear about the XPs. Also, when you say little to no drone, I"m looking for ZERO Drone. Close to that?

BY THE WAY: Does anybody think gear ratio might have something to do with drone? I have the 3.55 2010 5.4

^ Gear ratio change will move the drone rpm range up or down. That's about it.

Got the Borla in yesterday... dimensions are close to the Magnaflow and overall length is the same, BUT a couple things: the outlets are 2.5" ID, on the Maggie they're 2.5" OD and the spacing on the outlets are about 1/2" wider on the Borla. So the Borla is NOT a direct swap.

Anyhow, I made it work and got it installed... initial impression is that there is still some drone but its not overwhelming. The Borla is deeper sounding and more aggressive... I like it.

Comparo:
Borla vs. Maggie

Borla

Maggie

I'll try to get a vid later. I got a short one, but my phone didn't get the whole thing.

^ You could add a resonator before the muffler. That would take it down a notch. I am pleased with your comparison critique too.

Switch to corsa, everyone with that system says they have no drone. Post a video of the inside so we can hear how much drone. My truck has a little with true duals , x-pipe and bullets,. nothing like my wrangler with a single chamber flowmaster dumped. that is so loud you can't even hear the radio when cruising.

From what Borla says, the 2.5 inch outlets is what causes the majority of the drone. Their catbacks have 2.25 outlets and pipes and they said that the 2.25 gives better torque and less drone. From what I've found, the ProXS is not offered in a 3/2.25 sido, which is only available in a Turbo XL. The Turbo XL and Pro XS is the same from what they say, the only difference I've found is that the Pro XS doesn't come down to 2.25. I want to try the Borla, but don't want to pay premium for .25 less. I wonder if it can be reduced to use 2.25 tailpipe from the 2.5 outlets? Otherwise, I'm going the Corsa route. Corsa said they don't make a SIDO because of the brake line/trans bracket that's in the way on Fords. I was hoping to use a Borla though, I like the clean sound of them. Right now I have the Magnaflow cat back 16463, but wanted to try the Borla.

Yeah any shop could make that muffler work if you want 2.25" pipes.

Length of the tailpipe does play a big part in drone. Doesn't eliminate it, but moves it around in the rev range. Shorter pipes will move the drone up in the rev range, out of the 1500-2000 RPM range where its most annoying.

I just installed a 5x11 magnaflow muffler with 18" resonator before it in the stock pipes, and its not too loud, but has the drone.

Similar problem on my old truck was solved with cutting about 12" off the tailpipe. Moved the drone up to about 3000 RPM which didn't bother me cause if I'm in that rev range, I am probably wanting to make some noise anyway, and its out of my normal cruising range. Will report back on my system if I cut the pipe back a little.
