What have you done with the old mufflers? Would you be interested in selling them?

I sold the Magnaflow system already... still have the Borla muffler but shipping will probably be on the high side since I live in AK.

I'm gonna see how I like the Corsa before I do anything with the Borla.

If some drone is inevitable with this truck then I'm just gonna have a shop do up some pipes with the Borla and live with it. I'll let ya know though.

I back this statement up with case in point: Stock exhaust system = no drone. Same stock exhaust system where the only change made was to remove the stock SISO 31 inch muffler and replace with a 5X8X24 SISO Maganflow muffler onto the existing stock system. Moderate Drone appears at 1700-2000 rpm range. 5X8X24 then replaced by 5X11X22 Maggie which reduced drone to a minimal level.

The muffler has everything to do with the drone.
Drone is caused by several factors. Yes one of which is the muffler. The vehicle and tailpipe are others. The point I was trying to make is that if you have a muffler you like and it drones it can be reduced and/or eliminated by altering the tailpipe. In your example you changed the muffler and had different drones. This doesn't mean that a particular muffler will drone on all applications. The system drones not the muffler. Also for some interesting reading google "branch resonator".

The system drones as a result of the muffler. It did not drone until I changed out the stock muffler.

Once again my case in point. No modification was done to the exhaust pipe leading up to the muffler or to the tail pipe and tip. The tailpipe and tip are stock and were left in place. Stock SISO Muffler= No drone. 5X8X24 Oval Maggie SISO= drone. 5X11X22 Oval Maggie SISO= minimal drone.

I agree with your point that modifications to the system can be done to eliminate the muffler drone such as lead-in bullets or dual splitting the tail pipe. I just disagreed with the point that the muffler was not the culprit.

I reread my original post. It could have been worded better. While changing the muffler created a drone, Cut off the tailpipe and your
droning muffler will stop. To continue your example left droning muffler on, cut off tailpipe no drone. So what was causing the drone the muffler or the tailpipe? The answer is it's the combination of the two on that particular vehicle. We could go back and forth on this so we could agree to disagree. For what it's worth here is my saga:
1. Cut off y pipe and ran two pipes back to a diso 24" magnaflow with a crush. Bent 3" tailpipe- very loud drone
2. Same as 1 but added an x pipe- no change
3. Same as 2 but added a 4" Maggie bullet on each of the pipes leading into the diso- quieter overall but no Chang ein drone
4. Same as 3 but swapped crush bent tailpipe for flow master mandrel bent universal tailpipe. The reduced drone somewhat.
5. Altered length of tailpipe less drone
6. Installed extra 45 bend. Less drone.
7. Installed branch resonator almost completely reliminated.
8. Added 4" magna flow bullet after muffler - no changed
9. Got tired of messing with drone and went back to stock. Don't miss the minimal power gain or all the racket.

The only changes that had any affect on drone were after the muffler.

All said and done not worth the time and money. If I ever mod an exhaust system again it will be with an engineer proven drone free system. Even then it looks like it could be a crap shoot.

I have not tried modifying the tail pipe to eliminate the drone but as stated before agree with the concept that changing the piping does effect the drone.

It appears by your efforts that you have had great patience in trying to to do something about the drone. It is disappointing that the bullets did not help as that would have been my next step before going back to stock.

As of right now I can live with the minimal drone since I am on the coastline in relatively flat lands. A recent trip to the Smokies revealed that on the climbs the drone really shows itself. If I lived in a hilly/mountainous area no doubt I would return to stock.

Thanks for sharing your efforts, saves any more wasted time and money should I continue to battle the drone.
