Side Exit Exhausts

I am thinking about switching to a side exit exhaust the dumps right before the rear tire. My only question is have any of you that have this setup have any problems with the exhaust fumes messing up that rim?

I have stock rims on my truck and it hasn't done anything to the rims but i melted the ford logo in my center cap. but if you have after market rims it wont do that because most likely your after market rims are wider. You can see my setup on my profile.

I have DC-1s on my 150 and have had it out the side right in front of the tire for a while now and no problems. I really like it. I have 2.5 in pipe manderel bent out he side with 4in tips and a short bodied maggy. Sounds good and a nice tone at idle.

It won't hurt your rims. I have no idea where this rumor came from...

i ran a single tip exit in front of the wheel for one year, and no problemos. I now have dual tips and still nothing. Rocks do seem to ping the heck out of the tips though, kinda hard sometimes.

I've had my gibson coming out in front of the rear tire for 3 years now with aftermarket rims and no worries. I have seen a diesel with this setup and yes that did cover its rims but on a gasser no problem.

From Ford. Back when the 97's had the factory single side exit before the tire. They issued a semi-recall for it. Basically if your rear passenger wheel was being discolored they would replace it with a normal rear exit.

Yes that is what I heard and wasn't sure if it would still cause an issue

I always wondered this myself. I had never had this problem after I put it on. So your pretty safe. Unless swap with a diesel engine. Then you might have problems.

Here's a write-up on some research I did regarding this topic awhile back when I converted to a side exit exhaust system: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...omparison.html

The only issue you might have (if the tip is installed too close to the tire) is the heat from the tip heating up the tire. I never had an issue though.

OP- If that is the look and sound your after, then do it and quit worrying about it. There are hundreds of people running exhaust in front of the rear tire, and I have never heard of any of them having any problems. Not just f150's either...
