Question Cheapest way to get a decent exhaust!

I have gotten tired of the same old "weak" stock exhaust...so I want to do something to make the exhaust louder and give it a decent rumble....just dont have to much to spend...so what are my options? I don't want to lose any horsepower....Any help would be appreciated, I am an exhaust "noob"...

How much cash are you able/want to spend? I had my trucks stock replaced about 25k ago with Flowmasters, not highly regarded here from what i've seen when compared to magnaflow. But I love the sound on mine, its just enough to not annoying me while driving and when I get down on it, it just purs perfectly. A kit as far as I know is like $4xx.xx by itself. If you want it installed your likely to be charged 3 or so hours of shop labor time. Expect to spend 500-700.00 on some exhaust.

BTW :P your name isn't Joe by chance is it..... I've got an Uncle Joe Welch, only he is from Georgia ahaha, born around 65ish too :P

If I could make a suggestion, I would go with a Flowmaster 44 Series single in dual out. Get 2 Magnaflow stainless steel polished tips. Then hit a good muffler shop for the install. This is whats on my truck. I love it and it look awesome.

I swapped out my stock muffler for a magnaflow. Did it myself and reused the stock pipe along with a small section of pipe I bought from Autozone. I added a 3.5 stainless tip later on. I have about $120 in it and it sounds great. If you have access to tools and can or know someone who can weld that is all you need.

I've always wondered why people (or stock even) put the exhaust out the side like that, right behind the rear wheel. I noticed that it either rusts the stock junk or makes keeping your exhaust clean a real PITA.

I've got the flowmaster you mentioned sylentbutvylent, no muffler and dual straight out the back. I went with dual tips for the look/sound they put off so it looks like quad exhaust out of the back.

Dynomax bullet. Simple muffler swap with some added pipe. $40 for the muffler, $50 for a nice tip, and about $75 for labor. $200 for an exhaust? Cant beat that. Your truck will be loud and sound nice and deep for cheap.

X2

You can also knock off the $50 tip and just use the stock one. Around here, you can swap a Bullet in for less than $100, and it will sound great.

Cheapest route to go is running a dumped Dynomax Bullet.

Best thing to do, save up some cash, at least $200, buy a 3" bullet, run a 3" midpipe, and run a 3" single tailpipe, or dual 2.5" tailpipes with some stainless tips of your choice, oh, and mufflers of you choice. Bullets are loud and deep, my new favorite.

You can go cheap and lousy, or save for a quality made system with quality parts.

well i just ordered a 2.5" Dynomax bullet for my 94 with a 5.0. going to go with a single 2.5" all the way back. this should do really well i think with the bassani y pipe. with maybe a turn down after the axle.

There are many practical reasons. With the exhaust coming out the back it was easier for people to burn themselves on the exhaust pipes loading up the truck. It also made people smell like exhaust when loading up the truck while running. When offroading and going through a ditch, it would crush the rear tail pipes when the rear tires were at the lowest part of the ditch.

I'm sure there are a few other reasons..
