Sounds like you married the wrong one.

LT headers into high flow magnaflow cats into 3" single magnaflow catback!

Just put a magnaflow 14" round muffler (strait through design) and wow what a difference. Already louder than the flowmaster 40 and its not even broken in yet, it has a deeper more aggressive and cleaner tone, and alot less drone. couldnt be happier with the switch over.

just my opinion
K I figured the drone would be most of the reason. I dislike Flowmaster for that reason, the restricted flowpath, and the aluminized steel part, but they have recently really imrpoved that area by switching to t-409.

I have noticed on F150s with stock converters a 40 series is loud at cold idle and 2000 - 3500rpm, otherwise once warm its calm, and 3500+ sounds like a card pinned to a bicycle wheel spoke. No tone.

^ I couldn't stand that ping that mine had. It was only at one rpm spot, but I hit that spot all the freaking time. I am 100% happier with the Borla mufflers!

I had a 3"SI/2.5"DO exiting out the back Flowmaster Original 40 installed a while back. I loved the way it sounded but the drone in the cab was too much for me and after a year it took it's toll. The Flowmaster got replaced with an 18" 3"SI/2.5"DO Magnaflow. The Mag is much quieter, BUT, no drone. I didn't notice any loss/gain in performance with either. I am thinking about going to the 14" 3"SI/2.5"DO Magnaflow here in a week or two.
