Oem exhuast manifold broken.

Hello, I have a 97 f150 with the 4.6 v8. The bolt on the exhaust manifold the connects to the y pipe broke. There is a chunk missing where the stud was. .My question, what are the odds of getting manifold off without breaking manifold bolts off in head? The bolts look pretty weak. Thanks for any input.

Takes alot of patience, ease, and penetration grease to carefully get a stud out un broken. This isn't just with Ford though, many bolts crap out over the years due to all of the heat the engine puts out, rust and salt, and the manufacturers for putting cheap bolts in. Replace with stage 8 bolts after wards and you will never have the problem again, and if you buy a brand new truck, go with stage 8s asap and prevent the problem in the future.

My 97 expedition has some broke manifold bolts. The Mechanic says We should replace manifolds also because they are usually warped. Is there something better I should put on besides OEM?

What about the stage 8 studs, Where do you get them?

Ford Racing offers a set. Usually replacing with shorty headers is good rather than the same stock manifolds, if you dont want to add in longtube headers.
