Running exhaust out side of bed
That truck looks god awful..
theres a red dodge in my town that has one of those huge semi stacks on it, the ones with the big heat sheild things with all the holes cut in it. it comes out in front of the passenger rear tire and then goes straight up and its taller than the cab. it has to stick out at least a foot too. it looks so stupid. i'll take a pic next time i see it.
After crawling under there over the weekend and mocking things up, I now see why no one has ever done this before! I'm still going through with it but first I need 3 90* bends in a very small space so thats what I'm working on now. Its going to be all V cut 3" pipe tig'd for the 90s and some regular straight 3" as well as some flex pipe to keep the exhaust and bed moving separate.
I need to buy the flex pipe, some 3" straight and some gas for the welder, then I'll get started on this again in a few weeks.

Couldn't find pics, but I know he has the older body style, on those beds there is nothing in the way because I was going to do this on my 00 super cab, its a lot different on the 04+ there is 2 support braces built into the bedside right in the way, and very little room to run the exhaust tubing with the frame and leaf springs in the way.
I contemplated running it out the back of the bedside last weekend just to get it done, but that would be too easy.. anybody could do that. I want something different.

Mine is done in somewhat the same manner. I know its not out the bedside though.

I thought about doing it how you want it done xdriver, but the problems i had were running the pipe UNDER the frame then back up to the bedside and have it NOT visible. Basically at stock height or with any type of lift your going to see the snake of piping running either under the frame or between the frame and leafspring thru the wheelwell. For me, visually, the exposed piping took away from the clean finished look of the frenched exhaust tip. I added a ground effects kit and mounted it thru that instead.

Fabian- Looks good pretty similar, and yeah I'm going to run it between the frame and leaf spring and you will be able to see it thru the bedside but I'm not too concerned. Its just a PITA to get all the bends in that little space!
Edit: did you use any flex piping to isolate the exhaust movements from the lip kit?

I think I mis-read what you ment by between the frame and leaf.. I'm not actually running it thru the leaf spring, I'm going to run it to the right side of the leaf spring hanger, right where the frame angles downward, in that little pocket before the frame becomes flat again.
Heres a pretty picture. } = leaf spring bracket, O = Exhaust, \___ = angle of frame.
}O\___
haha
