Straight tips or Turn downs

Hope you all can help me. I have looked and can't seem to find pics of what I am looking for. I have a 2002 4wd Screw w/5.4L. I am going to put true duals on, cutting the Y pipe and leaving the cats on. It is going to be straight pipes, but the part I need help with is the tips. I like them straight out from under the bumper, and can find lots of pics of those. What I want to see or hear your opinions on is, turned down tips out from under the bumper.
Do you think this will quiet the noise a little or just make it echo off the pavement more? If someone has a pic of turned downs, I would love to see them. I can't seem to find any.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

You have a 4wd truck, 45 it behind both wheels!

Straight out > turn downs.

I have an 01 with the 5.4, 4x4 with 4.5 inch tips straight out the back. But I have the flowmaster super 40. I gotta say I love my tips. The biggest drawback to the 45's is that they tend to rust quicker and if you have mud tires, when you pick up rocks and they 'fling' from the tires and nick up your tips and they collect more and mud and road grim.

A buddy of mine had an older, I think it was a 80's body style f-150 with straigh pipes, no cats and turned down tips. The thing was loud as heck and sounded like straight chit. I absoultely hated the sound of that truck. Turned down like that would make the exhaust sound louder since the sound waves bounce off the pavement. Honestly I think straigh out the back is the quietest. The 45's are a little bit louder since they are closer to the cab.

Your best bet for not having a obnoxious sounding exhuast is straight out the back.

To answer your question straight out the back > turned down

Thanks everyone for the input. I will probably run them straight out the back, I am a product of the 50's and love the looks of duals w/tips from under the bumper. But, I also like the looks of the turn downs on cars, just have not seen any on 4wd trucks.
I have a small utility trailer and thought they might keep from blowing anything on cargo, but they will kick up dust and stir up anything on the pavement. I plan on leaving all the cats in place. Do you think this will be to loud? Should I consider running Cherry Bombs instead of straights? Back in the 50's and early 60's there was a muffler that was painted blue that I always ran, don't remember the name, but they only cost about $6.00 each. Had a real nice low rumble till you revved up and let off, then they would cackle real nice. That sound is what I want, and the you tube vids I have listened to, the dual straights sound close.

When I redo my exhaust I'm going with dual turn downs at the bumper.
I have s/o with turn down now. By the way, I'm a product of the 50s too.

First time I heard turn down tips was on a 69 Roadrunner.
I've always liked the sound.
