it comes apart, then use brake cleaner and a brush

or you use a dremel and smooth it out

I have an 01 4.6l intake manifold thats off of the truck also minus the throttle body. What should I use to clean the inside of it. I understand brake clean is safe to use on the outside but is it on the inside. Also what kind of dremel bit would be best to smooth the finish of it after I clean it.

I would also like to paint my rusted exhaust manifolds so which paint would be best to use on them with the heat that they put off?

Purple power full strength and any kind of bottle type brushes. Don't let it dry and flush it with plenty of water. Blow it out with compressed air and set it in the sun to dry.

Stones clog up real fast on aluminum, so different grits of sanding/polishing wheels. Problem with a Dremel is you can't reach in real far, so you want one of those flexible drives for it. When you are done wash it again real good with the Purple Power and flush it real good, same process as the initial cleaning. If you have visions of a complete mirror like finish when you are done then allow yourself about 3 weeks working every night.

The exhaust manifolds-wire brush the rust and clean them off. Then go to the auto parts and get some high temp paint, it's made for exhaust systems. On the cheap...BBQ paint-but it won't last.

Wow! Old thread! Excellent use of the search feature.

Actually, TP carries manifold paint. If you want it to last -

First of all scrape the big chunks out with a long screwdriver and then take old cable and frayed the ends. You can also use the tools like carb and cleaners,*tooth brush*and a solvent brush.
