gas milage? probably very minimal if there is a loss/gain. pass inspection? highly doubt that.

You wont lose anything noticeable unless you calculate every sip of fuel on mpg tests. You will not be able to pass in an emissions county, or at a place where your not good friends with the inspector.

^ even so your not going to be able to record a loss. There are a ton of other variables that differs the outcome of mileage...

i cut mine off and havnt seemed to lose anything.

but the cold weather has taken a toll . it is some how effecting back pressure causing system to lean codes then inturn putting more gas in to the cylinders

so if ur doing it for the short term just to get some sound until u have enough money to get a new exhaust go for it but long term is not a good idea.

Are you just wanting to cut the muffler out and add pipe to fill the space on your stock exhaust?

Or by the "just run straight pipes" comment are you looking to add duel exhaust of some form?

I did not notice any gas mileage loss from my true duel set up. I wouldn't think you would lose mileage period.

As for VA inspection. A muffler does nothing, that I know of, for emissions. So you would be fine that way. If they require that everything has a muffler you would be screwed.

a muffler just muffles the sound of the exhaust, cats are what you need for emissions but without a muffler you will not pass for other noise related reasons.

slow as in redneck sounding most likely. Typical small stabs. Whats funny is no muffler, and straight through mufflers, perform the same way, and straight through mufflers are best for performance so...

i don't know about in your town but around here i have a couple buddies with old z71's running true straight pipes, no mufflers, no cats, with an x-pipe and it sounds like they're going mach 10 when they're cruising around town.

ha i would say it sounds like it's going fast not slow.
